I Choose a language particularly because of the cultural interest in a cetain nation. This is the first step; then, when I am able to have a decent level of comprehension, I can use this very language as a gateway to another one: by having a good level in Chinese, i am already planing to learn other languages like korean, cantonese or japanese

In the past, my choice invariably had something to do with a beautiful woman.

The long and short of it is that I went on a snowboarding trip to the French Alps and after that decided that I wanted to be able to speak French.

So you can tell them to get the f' off your board and where your going to ram their ski's if they take another chunk out of your board? Learning German to do that in Austria this season, that and I enjoyed the few month of it I got to do in school.

I've chosen the languages I've learned for a variety of reasons, but the latest one I'm just now beginning - Turkish - interests me because of everything I've read about its grammar and construction.

Just with the very little I've managed to learn so far, the teaching method is different than any other language I've studied too. I may be premature in that assessment, though.

Russia are currently a major power economically, politically and military. Maybe not as powerful as the Sovyetski Soyuz but they still are a major player in world affairs, you only have to look at the amount of natural resources such as oil and gas they are blessed with.

English - My mother tongue, although being an Englishman, I think Englands language is pretty ugly and plain and I would trade my English for Russian anyday lol (But not changing my British nationality!). The only thing I like abot English is the fact that my countrys people with all their power and wisdom have spread our language around the world to become the somewhat de-facto lingua franca of planet earth! My ancsestors have made travelling around the world so much easier for me :D

Spanish - I'm currently studying Politics with Spanish and French at University. I love the language, its usefullness and the countries which speak Spanish and their food, culture, nature, beaches, girls/women, football, music.....

Russia - My favourite language by far, I love the sound of Russian as I think it sounds beautiful and powerful at the same time and I'm fascinated by Russian history and I would love to visit the country many times in the future. Russian is my dream language, unfortunately I cannot study it at my University :(

French - I'm currently studying Politics with Spanish and French at University. Apart from the fact that French is a very important language, especially since Britain is so close to France geographically. That's all really, I don't really like the language.
