I've been spending too much time here (in the forum) again and it will have to stop, unfortunately. There's some interesting things going on at the moment and it's hard to tear myself away.
I've taken my first break from French (one day) and it will be interesting to see what the repercussions are. I plan to start with it tomorrow.
I had a lot of fun googling to my hearts content, words and phrases in Japanese. One thing just led to another and I felt like I was learning without pushing myself. I do enjoy using the standard techniques for learning, but sometimes it's fun to surf and see what the mind can recognize. I would google a word I wasn't sure how to use and then I'd have to jump to Jim Breen's website to help define the context. I'd see a new word and I'd have to google that as well. I kept notes and it was interesting. If it were an easier language to translate I'd post my results here. That would take up too much time. If I feel like I'm advancing with it I might do it later.

BENCHMARK TEST 2: Gokaku Dekiru (JLPT 3) 模擬試験, 文字語彙の問題I,II,III (vocabulary quiz parts 1-3)
I failed.... I suddenly had the desire to test myself and it was probably a mistake because it was so late (midnight), but at any rate, I made a lot of mistakes. So many that I didn't finish the quiz. The 3 parts that I took had 10 items and I had to find the right word to fit the sentence. I had such a hard time recalling kanji, I only got about 50% correct. Miserable.
I've been rather inactive. I always plan to do 3 hours of study a day, but in reality it's barely an hour, all broken up. Very frustrating. I started French so that also contributes to my not spending enough time with Japanese.
On Sunday I made a one-week resolution. I plan to review all the JLPT 3 vocabulary plus their compounds every day for the next six days. (Flashcards from White Rabbit Press.) I made my first round on Sunday. I got through all kanji -- 284 -- PLUS 1,700 related compounds. That took me all day. All I did was go to the park with my daughter, tidy up, work on the wallpaper and oh yes, I spent an hour at a friend's house. All in all I had enough time to finish those flashcards.
I should be able to improve my score. Small ounce of consolation: of the 1,700 compounds I already recognize over half. They're part of the Japanese Core 2000 from "IKnow!". They're also part of the JLPT 2 list. Hopefully knowing them a little bit will help me to move a little faster later on. It's my desire to leave the JLPT3 level for good (a major requirement if I'm going to make my TAC Goal), but I need to use 2,000 words better before I can move on ahead.
Saturday night, after the quiz, I wrote about 100 sentences. These were the sentences from the quiz, plus some practice JLPT level sentences. I was hoping to do another 100 on Sunday but the flashcards were all I could handle.
So what would be a realistic goal for this week? I want to take another quiz this coming weekend. Maybe 100 cards a day plus 100 sentences? I'm going to shoot for that today. We'll see how much I can manage. I just got back from shopping..it's 10:00 now. At 12:00 I have to pick my kid up from school, make lunch, and then we have an appointment at 1:30...then we were planning on picking her sister up and going to the park...then I have to be back here at 5:00 because some people are scheduled to come by and look at the house. Then there's the dinner rush, homework, ......hmmmmmmm. **SIGH** I'll report back here with the results of my day.

Monday I managed to get through 100 flashcards, no sentences.
Tuesday I got through 50 flashcards, 70 sentences.
SO that's not working out so well. Here's another idea.
I'm ditching the flashcards and I'm going straight to a printed list. I'll get through the vocab faster if I don't go through all the compounds. I want to be thorough but also have to concentrate on what I don't know, instead of just statisfying my curiosity for more words. Okay. So I just made an old-fasioned voice recording on a cassette player of all the words that I need to review the most. I read through 1,500 words and kind of refreshed my knowledge of the kanji that way, although I much prefer flashcards. The list I have only lists the kanji for the JLPT 3. I'd like to see them for all the vocabulary -- 1,500. I'll start reading for them. Now that I've satisfied my first part of the criteria for the day, I can begin making sentences. All my sentences are coming from old tests so I should be set for my little quiz on Sunday.
The sentences will have to wait until I get back - 1:00 - I hope. I'm really hoping I can get a friend of mine to take one of my kids for the afternoon so I have some more time today. I have to start working on a lesson plan for Thursday...okay, it can probably wait...

I've listened to my words once and that's on my list to do again after I get back from work.
I found this great link (I'll drop it here later, but as it is I have it posted in the "Internet Links" thread..) and I've been going over the vocab with the Jim Breen website. I think if I go over these dialogues thoroughly it will help me with the listening part from my JLPT prep. books. I can't really test cold since I've already been over the dialogues. They're hit and miss. The more listening practice the better. Targeted listening, not passive. I've given up on the news for now.
I've been writing sentences from the JLPTStudyPage.com. I'm still a little weak on the grammar. I gotta run..I'll pick up where I left off later..

I worked on grammar all day yesterday. I used my "nihongono bonjinsha" japanese practice workbook,
I took a test back in...when was it?...February or so and reported a deficit in grammar and reading. I took another little mock-test (JLPT 3 of course) the one at the end of the bonjinsha -- "saishouno tesuto" -- and made only slightly better scores than last time.
BENCHMARKTEST2 (for real this time because I studied.)
The grammar areas are the Passive, Causative (Passive), demonstratives, "receiving" constructions, conditionals, particles, "guessing" constructions, "rumor situations", comparisons, nominalizers, auxiliaries.
受身、警護、使役、支持し、受給、条件、助 詞、推量、伝聞 様態、文の名詞化、補助動 詞
文字 (kanji) -- 2/19
語彙 (vocab) -- 2/10
聴解 (listening) -- 0 (don't have the CDs)
文法 (grammar) -- 9/22
読解 (reading) -- 0/4
So, yes, I'm indeed disappointed that my grammar hasn't really improved over the past few months since the last Bonjisha test (page6). I probably lucked out on the reading. My reading comprehension is still low. I had to really study the text passage -- it wasn't easy for me.
The good news is that I know exactly what I need to work on. Here it is:
Passive needs revision, as does keigo. The mistakes I made are on the following. Wouldn't hurt to go over these.

I'll continue doing grammar. I'll go back to the exercises in this book in a few weeks and do them again. In the meantime, I can scrounge up some exercises from my last JFBP book -- I haven't even finished it.
The next test should catapult me beyond the -DE-tested JLPT 3 level. I'll be aiming towards the next BENCHMARK...
EDIT: I'm updating my first post "TAC Goals" with the new benchmark and adding French. Good news, I don't have to work on Friday -- holiday -- less time making lesson plans means more time for language study. Bad news, less money for next month.

We haven't started moving yet (the calm before the storm) so I want to get in a little writing practice.
I'm just trying to get a little deeper understanding of all the grammar that I did over the weekend. My sentences touch on a specific piece of grammar. If they don't make sense, someone please feel free to step in.

When I got home I ate breakfast. Then I've been shadowing some French. I'd like to try shadowing every day. Up to this point I haven't gotten to study (French) (so) continuing (with French) is hard. During the course of this week I want to study a lot of grammar. That's why I'm writing in Japanese. I thought I would buy a new Japanese book. (Next logical sentence would be "so I ordered one" but I'm not sure if 注文する would be the proper verb to use for ordering something from the Internet. I'll try looking it up later...) I decided on a (JLPT) level 2 book. I think it will be sent the week after next.
For French I'd like to start the "Active Phase" a little early. I'm not supposed to start until lesson 50 -- I'm at 30. If it's not too much trouble I'll make it a regular practice, even though it's probably premature..

I bought a present for the friend of my daughter. My daughter and her friend are students. They like going to school. I'm going to the grocery store, then the store and afterwards returning home.

Ce matin, je frai appeler l´agence de déménagement. Nous voulons l´aide avec le déménagement. J'espère que sera n´est pas grave -- sera n´est pas cher. Ils me donnent réponse demain.
Aprés, je frai prendre la grammaire japonais. je ne me suis pas sûr... oh, j´ai si peu de temps. Une demi heure. 10.00 va sonner...
Ma fille de 3 ans veut à manger. Elle voit la télévision. Il ne trouve pas d´émission intéressant aisi elle voit une vidéo. Pour le petit déjeuner, céréale.

Hi Sunja, it is me butting in again...
朝ご飯 sounds more natural in this context.
This one is a little difficult - how about: 文法をいっぱい勉強したいです。Or if you keep your original version, you have to move よく adjacent to the verb.
Not どうして (why), but だから or それで
2級の本にしました。 or if you want to use 決 I think that 2級の本に決めたんです sounds slghtly better.
