but I think I need to clarify this statement; I intend to write about my language learning activities in the languages I'm learning. If someone else posts something here in English I will of course respond in English. Thus...

Reasons to learn...

Latin - because it is the mother of European languages, it will give you a much better understanding of English, there are some neat quirks that got lost in all modern Romance languages, it is beautifully concise

Esperanto - because of all the reasons listed in the Esperanto thread. Plus it has a really neat agglutinative feature, e. g. "mal-san-ul-ej-o" = opposite of - healthy - person - place - noun = a place for sick people = hospital.

Swahili - because the verbs are an interesting kind of crazy.
ni-na-jua = I-present-know = I know
u-ta-jua = you-future-know = you will know
ha-tu-li-jua = not-you pl.-past-know = you (plural) did not know
si-na-ku-jua = I not-present-you-know = I don't know you
Thanks Sprachprofi, these are all excellent suggestions.

Explique las conjugaciones in inglés, ¿verdad? No, no quiero escribir nada in inglés aquí nunca jamás, además necesito practicar español ahora.

   hablar comer escribir
yo hable   coma   escriba
tú hables comas escribas
Ud./él/ella hable   coma   escriba
nosotros   hablemos comamos escribamos

Mick

EDIT: I corrected the mistake I mentioned yesterday.

I'm writing in English today, because I've been a little lazy yesterday and today. I've been focusing mostly on Swedish for the last week, and also reading too many other threads here; but I needed a break from heavy studying. I'm also preparing for TAC 2010 by gathering resources and working out a new study schedule. I've also realized that I need to set clearer goals for myself otherwise I won't make much progress.

I've also decided that my 'dabbling" language will most likely be Latin. Since it's not really a spoken language anymore, I won't have to care as much about pronouncing things correctly. So I'll need to gather resources for Latin.

Mick

How much will 'dabbling' involve? If you can spare three hours total a week, join my Latin class and I promise you that you will be reading Caesar, Cicero, Virgil & Co in the original by July.

Idag översatte jag två låtar till engelska. Jag ska skriv mer senare
I knew I'd made a mistake here; the first sentence should read "Idag översatte två sångar till engelska." meaning I had translated two songs into English. Unfortunately my computer had problems again yesterday when I tried to post one of the translations here, so I'll try again tomorrow. Today my brother is coming to visit for Christmas so I've been busy preparing for his visit and only managed to read a little bit in Afrikaans and Spanish and did a brief grammar review of both languages.

I've finallly stopped worrying about Swedish pronunciation and just started listening to spoken Swedish. I plan to focus more on Finnish this next week, as it's now my weakest language. Christmas will of course mean losing a study day or two next week, but it's an important holiday so that's fine.

Buenas noches
Goeie nag
God natt
Hyvää yötä

Mick

EDIT: @Sprachprofi: When will I need to let you know if I can join your Latin class? I'm still working on my schedule for January through March 2010 to see if I can spare another 3 hours a week.
