a) using Assimil after Pimsleur. If I did do this, which level would I need?
b) as an alternative to using Assimil, can I get the Spanish audio book to Harry Potter and work through this with the Spanish Harry Potter book (which I have already read)as a cheaper alternative?
c) is it worth me thinking about taking up either French and/or German as I really would like to learn these too? I am a first time learner of a second language so I suspect it is best I wait...

a) Pimsleur will only provide you with the basic mechanics of a language. You need then to clothe them up with real content and vocabulary. Assimil would be a good choice for this, but try to get an old edition, from the 70s or 80s.
b) You could do that too, but I think it would be more efficient to use material with graded progression at this stage.
c) In my opinion, since this is your first foreign language, you should wait until you reach a more advanced level in Spanish, so you'll know what works for you and learn how to learn.

You're welcome!

About Assimil, you should check sites like Amazon.com and Abebooks.com and search for "Spanish Without Toil". Older editions from the 70s are scarcer and sometimes expensive, but their greater quality in comparison with today's makes it worth it in my opinion. And sometimes very nice and inexpensive copies pop up. I just bought the French and Italian courses from the 70s in very good condition for under 10USD each!

About your eagerness to start new languages, I entirely understand you but do believe it is better to way until you reach a higher level in your current language. The more languages you study at once, the less progress you'll make on each, and the longer it will be before you can gainfully and pleasurably employ them. Also, as I said earlier, it is better to experiment with learning methods on Spanish so you'll better know how to proceed with the others.

Good luck with your studies!
