I haven't been here for awhile - life got turned upside down for a bit (pregnancy does that), I have been studying some Spanish, but not enough. I also got very confused with Pimsleur, as I keep thinking of the German answers, so I dropped it for a while. I know that just posting my study helped keep me on track, so I'm starting again.
So I switched to Spanish as I want to learn a language with my young children, and Spanish is:- more available - especially for children's materials
- faster for me to learn
- more comfortable for me (I had Spanish in grade school)
- more teachable for me - I wouldn't be ready to speak German with them and was unable to find reasonable options
I will be going back to German as soon as I'm well-grounded in Spanish - hopefully by next year. I am still working on Ancient Greek, just waiting for my book to get here. (I'm stuck on tenses/conjugations/declusions anyway.)
I will be starting with the following resources:
- Michel Thomas (1/2 way through the Basic course)
- Pimsleur (Lesson 2 done, just restarted this)
- Harry Potter in Spanish
- Anki (currently with sentences from MT)
Later I'll use FSI. I also need to find more Spanish songs/singers. I have been watching some movies in Spanish, except I rarely watch movies.
My goal is fluency in reading/writing as well as speaking/comprehending. I would love to test my/our skills with some time in Mexico. As I know people who take mission trips to Mexico (they build, bring supplies, etc.) this should be doable.
I'd like to spend at least 1 hour a day actively studying, and a more passively listening or reading. For November I'll be happy with 30+ minutes of daily study, as the baby is due and its NaNoWriMo time.

Well I think I need to post daily, since my brain is forgetting which lessons I've done. Today I did a lot of cards on Anki, I've neglected it and its making understanding Michel Thomas harder. I also did Pimsleur 8, and the word for beer is not clicking. I don't even like beer. I plan to stick Pimsleur sentences in Anki as well.

Anki - Reviewed, then added cards for Pimsleur 1-5 and MT to CD 6. I also suspended the cards for "clever" since the same word is clever and ready, and I was very confused.
MT - Finished Basic CD 6
Pimsleur - Reviewed #8 (the word for beer is kind of like the font cervesia), listened to #9 as well.

Hey Mtcougar,
It looks like you are actively posting your study time in your log. Good for you. I have the Easy Spanish Reader book: a three-part text for beginning Students. Please let me know how you like it. I am working on many different Spanish materials with right now and I do not want to stretch myself on too many different material in a language. I just haven't got to that one yet. I look forward to reading your log.
Also congratulations on your pregnancy.
