Back in Febuary 2008, I set myself a target of completing 200 hours of French. Yesterday, sat on a train in Luxembourg train station, I finally crossed the finish line as I completed my final study session in that target period

I think it is good to look back and see how far I have come. Back when I started, I REALLY struggled with listening. Now, I have noticed a huge improvement, though there is still room for more. I now routinely buy French language magazines and enjoy them. I have sat in several movies entirely in French. I have reached the level where I can handle complex situations in French (e.g. explaining to a repairman what the problem with a broken shower was, or talking the IT team through my PC problems by phone). I have gone to the point where my workplace rated me as a high B2 in French, so I am now within the touching distance of the C level I desire.

I am now going to emark on "Phase two". Which is going to be an additional 200 hours of "tightening up my French". The first 200 hours involved me just getting a grounding in French, and not all the the 200 hours was as effective as I hoped (some of the time was spent making vocabulary cards).

So, I will launch the next 200 hours starting today. In the next 200 hours, may target is as follows:-

80%+ on every grammar exercise I attempt in my exercise book.

Regular sentence method revision on ANKI.

Listen to a 40 minute episode of "Les Experts" on my DVD box set each night.

Verb form review every day.

At the end of this 200 hour period, I will do an Alliance Francaise certificate, and achieve a C level award.

Congrats on finishing your first block of 200 hours' French study. My own programme also breaks down into an initial "passive" phase of 200 hours, focussing on listening-reading, followed by the an "active" phase to really get to grips with speaking, grammar and writing afterwards. Best of luck with your next 200 hours and reaching an advanced level. I think making the most of your part-French speaking work environment will really help propel you forward towards success.
