Hello Everyone!
This will be my personal TAC 2010 journal. I will be studying two languages: French and...not sure about the second yet :) I will officially start logging once the new year begins.
I have been studying French for about two months now (started October09), so I am a beginner.
GOAL: Be able to express myself comfortably and understand a decent amount of news and movies. I feel this will be obtainable in one year (right everyone!!)
Methods: Very natural, relaxed, and enjoyable
Michel Thomas - French and French Language Builder
- will focus on 1-3 lessons per week and listen to them countless times
LingQ.com - listen while reading text. And shadowing.
- will focus on one 'story' per week and listen to it countless times. Vocab derives from these 'stories' and will have a copy of the text with me at all times. Major learning comes from this.
Watch movies in French with French subtitles
Listen to French news (Paris and Montreal)
Casually glance at a grammar book

Sounds like a good plan. I think your goal is totally doable within a year. Your speed will depend on how much time you can spend on it, ie how much exposure you can get. Your plan sounds good, though. Good luck!

Hey Nichtgut,
What do you have in mind for the second language? I am sure that you have narrowed it down to at least a few. Anyways good luck on your TAC conquest!

Nicht Gut, I too am learning French (and Spanish) and I can't help but notice that we are using more or less exactly the same resources! Like you, I am going for a relaxed, natural approach; using: Michel Thomas, LingQ, and French in Action. Check out my TAC log if your interested!
Oliver

Hey Nicht Gut, good to be in Team E with you.
I found Michel Thomas an amazing tool, after a few listens I found myself really improving. Once completing the beginners Michel Thomas I could pretty much move straight onto the advanced, I did complete the Language Builder but found Advanced Michel Thomas a better learning tool.
Wishing you all the best and I'll try to aid you whatever way I can this year.
