Time for me to post my Korean goals for 2010. But first, a review of where I'm at.

In 2009, my goals were to re-read a Korean Tarot Card book and to get through the all the Ganada Korean for Foreigners grammar books. I had given up on re-reading the tarot card book but I did finish each and every grammar book, including translating some of the chapters from the Ganada Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 (the advanced grammar books are written in Korean.)

For the reading, I had read many articles from the YTN news agency and the Korean Central News Agency(North Korean news). That had helped me tremendously with the vocabulary. And in December, I had finished writing down the 800th Hanja to a stack of notecards with Hanjas. That had helped me somewhat with vocabulary.

Goals:
The most important thing will be for me to improve my listening skills. So here are some approaches I plan to try this year.
1. Listen to all the dialogs from the Ganada grammar books. By the end of 2010, I expect to have all the grammar explanations from the Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 books done.
2. Listen to some Korean audio books. In December, I had started reading the Korean translation for the Quran. The audio for the Korean translation has both the Korean and Arabic on it. I'm aiming to get through the 2nd Surah. Getting some of the Arabic down for that Surah will be handy but not a top priority. (I know that the online Korean version has translation mistakes, but I have a hardback translation which is more accurate.) After getting through the 2nd Surah, I might get back to reading the Korean Bible, or do some more Surahs.
3. Continue with the Hanjas. I'll be copying the stack of hanja cards to a notebook and writing more detailed explanations into the notebook.
4. Continue reading newspaper articles. At this moment, I've been able to read some Korean news articles with very little effort while I'm constantly reaching for the dictionary on other articles. I'm making slow but steady progress on the vocabulary for news articles.

And of course, I do watch Korean TV shows. Sometimes I will watch dramas. But right now I'm most comfortable with watching news reports off YTN and watching Korean cartoons. Hopefully, when my vocabulary and grammar is more further along, I'll be able to tackle watching Korean dramas and movies.
