As this is my first post I thought I'd introduce myself a bit to the members of this forum. My name is Xenoglossophobe (of course it's not my real name!) and I live in the North of the UK. Contrary to my name, I am not a Xenoglossophobe (for those who are interested this is a person who has a fear of foregin languages). I chose this username purely because it sounds interesting and unusual and I thought it was somewhat relevant to the subject of this forum. I am currently in school and I am studying French and Spanish however I can clearly see that I am making very little REAL progress in these areas so I decided to take matters into my own hands and truely control my learning. It has only been in the past two/three years or so that I have discovered how much languages interest me and I have to say that I have been somewhat scared to begin my language learning adventure but I have made the decision that now is the time and I thought TAC was the perfect operatunity to start.
For this years TAC I'm going to be studying French and later on Russian and Japanese.
For french I am going to use Assimil's French without toil, French in Action and Michel Thomas. I'm also contemplating swaping Assimil for FSI; any advice?
I really appreciate feedback, encouragement and constructive criticism.
Cheers,
Xenoglossophobe

Okay, so today I've decided to throw Russian into the mix. I've been gathering material but all I can find is Assimil's Russian without toil and Russianpod; a podcast containing russian lessons. I'm going to keep my eyes open but I'm going to make a start on Assimil today.

Ooh! Russian seems like such an exotic language. Best of luck :).

Thanks Global Gizzy!
Sorry I haven't posted of my progress for the past couple of days; I've been quite busy. Anyhow, of Assimil French I've completed up to lesson 3 and am currently working on lesson 4 as we speak. For Russian, My progress has been slow, as this isn't the language I'm conentrating on most. I'm currently doing lesson 2 of Assimil russian.
I'm reall enjoying assimil at the moment, I hope I keep up with it!
thanks,
Xeno
