I'd be interested to know what the audio material is on the latest version, and if it's different from my 2nd-hand Nouvel Italien Sans Peine third edition, it would be worth buying to get some new audio material as I really enjoy the Assimil format.
My edition has Marco going to Milan for a job interview, the Fords holidayig in Naples, Francesca Brambilla buying gifts for friends, etc.
Is it still the same? |

I think so, The first lesson is Marco making a phone call, and the second has him buying a train ticket to Milan. The audio is very good. I love this program. :)

Grazie mille, datsunking, it's definitely the same. I'm up to about lesson 35 now, and it's moving a bit fast for me, it would be nice if there was an alternative version so I could do more work at the slower speed (yes i am an extremely slow and lazy language learner).
I must say I was very skeptical about the shadowing technique recommended for Assimil (not that I doubted it could work, just that it seemed too much like hard work). However, I decided to give it a go, and after only working through 35 lessons I can already see (I mean hear!) the difference when listening to Italian movies - it's like my ear has been trained to hear faster.
I'm definitely a fan!
;-)

It is very amazing. I'm on lesson 8 now. :) best of luck to you. I would race you, but you obviously have a little head start! :P
I feel that I will have a good grasp of Italian when I'm finished. I plan on doing it twice actually. (100 days each, I should be done in the summer sometime) :D

I think you will win, in any case! I have a fifteen minute drive to work - I practice shadowing one lesson each way, repeating it over and over. But the last few lessons I am struggling to get to a level I am happy with, within the time frame, so anticipate that the pace is going to slow down considerably.
At home I put difficult phrases into Anki and practice shadowing again if I need the extra practice, and read the transcription and look up translations where necessary, for a few lessons ahead.
I'm not really doing the active/passive thing, just the shadowing, with my own "recycling" study plan that I devised with Pimsleur.

Same here. Whenever I get a new language book in the mail, I'm like a child on Christmas morning!
