hahahahaha I cannot stop laughing :D

German Rap > American Rap.

Are you insane? sure new american rap sucks but the best of American rap(biggie, nas, tribe called quest, tupac, wu tang clan) certainly destroys anything German rap has to offer.

Damn it, I hate french and I want to begin learning German

I'm significantly influenced to learn German as it was the language of the White Rose.

I have everything from the 80's and 90's. Anything after that is garbage in my opinion. (Biggie, Pac, Paperboy, Run DMC, MC Lyte, JJ Fad, E-40, Souls of Mischief, NWA etc are the best :D)

German Rap has excellent lyrics for the most part and at least rhymes. I learn a lot of my languages through music.

"Ein Teil von mir" by Sido is one of my favorites :D

I've converted entirely to German and Spanish rap instead of this mainstream garbage.

Most of this stuff today is entirely degrading and it's a shame so many listen to it. It has no point, it's just profanity lol :)

Anyways, back to German.

I ran into a German rap song somewhere, and just that one song has motivated me enough to learn the language. :)

@cordelia - is this thread in response to the "Why does German have a bad reputation?" thread?

Of course, not ;-) where would you get a silly idea like that.. hehe...

For me personally, it is a very clear language to understand. Once I learn vocabulary I
can make out sentences easily unlike French where everything is slurred together.

It is a very prominent language yet not everyone studies it like they do French and
Spanish (at least in the US) so you will certainly stand out.

Grimm's Fairy tales (okay, this one might be silly to a lot of people but not to me)

The language sounds awesome and is definitely not ugly as many believe.

Thanks for this post Cordelia0507, I was just thinking about taking up German (only
took 1 high school class) and think I will now. I am sure I can make room for it
although I am currently studying to become an ASL (American Sign Language) interpreter
which is a lot more intimidating than German or any spoken language for me since my
receptive skills are less than amazing.

Seeing as most of that thread involved why that reputation is undeserved yet prevalent, this is a bit confusing to say the least.

The déclencheur in my German studies was music. Definitely. I started with Rammstein, probably like a lot of people, but soon discovered some truly amazing stuff, the vast, vast majority of which is simply unknown beyond the borders of Germany or Austria. Great music that is only really accessible to you if you learn German. It essentially gave me access to a new world, not only of music, though it was really the spark that got me going. When I think back to my highschool days of German, I used it almost every day, both inside the class and also at home, in forums, chatting to native speakers about German music. The passion has by no means died - I really feel very fortunate and happy to know it - but I have since expanded my interest in languages and come to feel excitement and curiosity for a number of others, so the passion has died down a bit now. But surely not knowing German would leave quite a void in me I guess; it got me into languages in general. I still haven't had the chance to go to Germany, and I don't use the language as often as I used to, but it's a language I'll always have with me.

Do most German rappers have Turkish descent?....is that true?

How come you forget to mention KRAFTWERK, the fathers of electronic music?

Finally, I have to praise Corbelia's thread....well done....but I still fear to understand nothing even though I study it hard.
