(Audio Magazine)

This bad boy is available in many countries, I do believe. It is a magazine/booklet that also contains an audio CD of the texts, which are in the booklet. This magazine is filled with interesting themes concerning Germany and Austria, and the vocabulary explainations and audio are very useful for the learner. Unfortunately, in my experience, the magazine arrives at funky intervals, atleast when I had subscribed.

The "funkiness" of delivery was a common complaint for all of the Champs-Elysées magazines at one time or another. Alas the company has ceased operations for the time being due to a very lengthy and ligitious dispute over who owns what. It's hard to know whether it will come back to life.

That is too bad, as I thought the product was actually pretty good, despite the delivery situation. Thanks for the information though.

Has anyone tried this book before?

I have this (or I have the previous addition ISBN 0340915226 this addition is ISBN 1444109995).

Originally my french teacher recommended I buy the french version ('mot a mot') in order to expand my vocabulary and so when I saw that there was a German one, I bought both at the same time.

It's called 'word for word' and that is what it is. It is book containing lots of itemised vocabulary in lists.

The book is divided into about 20 chapters based on different topics - travel, environment, health etc. Each chapter begins with 'key vocab' or the basics that you should know e.g. in the family relationships chapter it has things like mother, father, to get on well with etc. Then there are subdivided sections on things related to that chapter (so continue with the family relationships chapter there are things like love, child/adult struggle etc.)

The first chapter is more like a thesaurus of common phrases and expressions such as and, but, I think that... etc.

This is a vocabulary book and contains very few phrases and examples. It is good if you wish to use it to improve your writing, but I'm not sure how well it works to improve your speaking.

But if you are looking for a good advanced vocabulary book then I would recommend this one. It is good value for money and does contain a lot of useful vocabulary. (The other one my language teachers recommend I purchase was this one:

This contains about 1/2 as much vocab but costs more.

Hope that helps

xx
