I am interested in getting opinions/consensus about two methods for learning French which I will use in my further long-term studies (along with FIA).
There is a podcast called "Learning French by Podcast". It has approximately 140 lessons built up since 2006. It also (for a fee) has excellent, detailed pdf files which complement each lesson.
On the other hand, there is Assimil. I have found it to be quite formidable and very easy to use. LFBP moves a bit more quickly, but nearly everything in the dialogue is read verbatim and repeated.
If anyone has comments about either one of these, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you

I had a look at both and suggested them to a friend who wanted to learn French. She ended
up using Assimil, but I think I would have used the podcasts instead. It's just so
lively, so versatile, and practical. I feel like Assimil is so disconnected; it presents
dialogs that look so disconnected from reality (at least at the beginning).

Thanks to Arekkusu :-) - for a podcast learning program, LFBP is fairly high quality - perhaps after LFBP, I can look at the Assimil advanced program in French.

Yes. I had a look at some of the sample materials. Very good quality. Myself, I'd be tempted to use both.

I used a different podcast series for Japanese and I learned LOADS from it, so I warm-heartedly encourage anyone wondering if they should give podcasts a try.
