Well, I've spent a lot of time 'fluffing about' with this language, but now I finally feel like I can get serious about it. I am in the process of finalising details with a Hungarian tutor. She lives about 9 hours away, but we are trying to set something up over the internet.
I can't believe my luck that I actually finally found someone. I've been trying for so long - and I think maybe this is the push I've really needed to help me get serious. I've always let work etc get in the way of my studies because it was more pressing - but I think with a tutor, I will put in more effort because I know I'm paying and I have to turn up to a class the next week with improvement! LOL
I wanted to have two classes a week, but at this stage it's a little too expensive for me. I'll see how I go with one session per week for a while, then consider two a little later on.
In the meantime, until my classes are set up, I've started rereading Teach Yourself Hungarian - just as a bit of a refresher. I'm currently up to Unit 3.
I've previously been hopeless at keeping a log, but I'm going to give it another try - and hopefully I'll be more successful this time around!

Well last night was officially my first Hungarian lesson! I really enjoyed it! It was rather late at night (9.30pm) which was fine last night, but has thrown me off this morning - but I'll get used to it!
I'll write more later... I have to go to the gym before work!

Thanks zhiguli - és te!
Okay, so the first class covered a fair bit of decent pronunciation and some basic grammar. I knew most of it, but I was glad to go back and 'touch base' with it. Actually, for some reason it kind of helped me to cement what I had learnt a little more.
I think for the most part, what I had taught myself, I THOUGHT was right - but I never let it gel completely because I was unsure if it really WAS right. Having someone tell me "yes this is right" is exactly what I needed! I don't feel like I'm guessing as much anymore!
Anyway, I really enjoyed the class, I like the teacher and I wish wish WISH that I could do another class a week (2 classes a week instead of 1). I'm trying to think of some magical way I can come up with the money!

Second lesson was on Monday It was a little more difficult than the previous week, but I was also extrememly tired from a big weekend of work - so I am positive it played a role!
The focus of the lesson was on nouns and plurals. I like that we're covering these things to make sure that I understand them.
In other areas, I'm trying to get into reading again, but am having a little trouble. I've got the first Harry Potter book out to read (in English & Hungarian), but my stubbornness won't let me move on from the first page because I don't understand every word. I'm working on getting over it and to just keep going because I'll eventually pick up the words throughout the book.
I've also been reading a few Hungarian websites recently. These are ones that I've know for quite a while and have previous more or less just been able to read the titles and look at the pictures. While I'm a long run from being able to understand the articles fully, I'm finding that I am able to get the general gist of the articles...
Anyway, that's it from me for now...

Katie - Where in Australia are you located? We could work on Hungarian together, or at the least set up a skype chat.

Hi strossel!
Sorry, I've been absent for a very long time! Are you still studying Hungarian? Are you still looking for a 'study buddy'?
I continued with my classes over the internet for about 4 months, after which time my tutor returned to Hungary to get married. We didn't resume classes after that - I guess life just got in the way, but I really enjoyed her classes.
It was just my luck that I then found out that there is a Hungarian teacher who lives about 2 streets away from me!! I attended classes with her again for about 4 months, but after a job change and a few 'hiccups' I had to stop for a while.
I will be resuming my classes again with her in the New Year, but I hope to 'upgrade' to 2 classes a week from February onwards. I hope that everything will work out!

Well, I'm back and STILL studying Hungarian - of course! :) Not being a language that I've been using a terrible amount, I've found my speech being a rather slow progression. But I'm still sticking with it. 99% of the time I can get my point across at least - and I think that's the important thing. If I went to Hungary at this point in my life, I'd survive. But creating fluency in Hungarian is my goal - which is quite difficult.
I'm currently trying to immerse myself on a daily basis into the language a bit more (ie, I'm looking for some Hungarian television series shows, I'm collecting some DVDs,and I'd like to continue increasing my Hungarian book collection). Ideally, I'd like to hear Hungarian radio upon waking, and maybe start by reading the news in Hungarian aswell - so that the first things I see in the morning are Hungarian. I would like to follow that up on the evening with a little study and watching either a tv show or some of a movie in Hungarian.
Any ideas on what else I can do?
