No French work today - to be honest, I was happily immersed in Hungarian for most of the day. I thought about doing some more MT French however, each time I had an opportunity, I decided to stick with Hungarian.
HUNGARIAN
Pimsleur lessons 17 & 18 now done. FSI drills in Unit 7 are taking longer than anticipated. I'm not overly excited about them, I have to admit. LOL
READING - Only followed through on audiobook today. I borrowed a book on raising bilingual children from the library, so I have been reading this one (on top of the interest, I'm hoping to get some more ideas for immersion)
WRITING - MSN chatting again
LISTENING - Pimsleur lessons x 2, plus audiobook. I may watch a dvd later... depends how tired I am!
SPEAKING - only a few smaller opportunities to actually speak in Hungarian today.

I just realised that I haven't been writing down that I've also been using Anki daily on top of my other studies. I'm sitting at somewhere around 185 flashcards in there at the moment...

Yesterday's log...
Busy day of running around, so not much accomplished by way of study.
HUNGARIAN
Pimsleur lessons 19 - 21 completed. Getting close to the end now! Still no new vocab - just a reminder of the word már which for some crazy reason, I had forgotten!
Only a very small amount of talking in Hungarian, a short MSN chat (about 15-20 mins) and some more Harry Potter audio & reading. I have found it more productive if I quickly read the chapter in English first, and THEN listen to the Hungarian audio and read in Hungarian.
I also read a short children's storybook and looked up a few random words that came up during conversation.
I feel like I'm in a little rut at the moment. I'm starting to much more naturally think in Hungarian, but when I get to a word that I don't know, it throws me off and I lose my train of thought. It feels similar to when you 'know' something and it's so close to being recalled, but you just can't get it.
FRENCH
Nothing much again today. I need to be more consistent with my French studies. I'm wondering if I should make a 'French hour' each day & a French corner in my house. This idea comes from a book I have just finished reading on raising bilingual children. There were some great French online educational resources to help learning aswell, so I am thinking to play a little on those if I can put together the time. Of course, there weren't any resources for Hungarian in amongst those - but there were quite a few other languages - especially a lot in German & Spanish.

Another busy day.
I've done Anki and listened to Lesson 22 of Pimsleur. Before I go to bed, I'd like to do another Pimsleur lesson & some reading.
I also plan to do some Michel Thomas French. I haven't been doing very much by way of French, but I'd like to add in more now I think. Somehow, it feels that studying French gives me a fresh mind for Hungarian too.

Slowly sinking back into the old habit of not speaking. I need to keep making a conscious effort to talk more!

I haven't written in here for a while, but I've picked up again with my studies. I'm currently trying to balance out my language studies with my course studies and also my work. Has been a little challenging, but is also a great chance to review my study methods and ensure that I'm making the most out of the time I have.
I'm currently completing lesson 28 of Pimsleur Hungarian. Apart from the reminder of the 1 word I mentioned in an earlier post, I still haven't come across any new vocabulary. However, as I had hoped, sentence construction is becoming a lot easier. I'm starting to just 'know' how to say something.
I'm hoping to finish Pimsleur today however, I may be aiming a little high there. I should finish it tomorrow if not today.
FRENCH
Tonight I would like to watch French in Action & continue with some more of Michel Thomas. I would like to 'up the anti' a little on my French studies now. I still don't want the pressure, but I'd like to make a little more of a commitment. I think a maximum of 1 hour a day is enough.
I think I'm doing a lot more now in Hungarian, that allows me to spend that hour a day on French. I'm immersing myself in Hungarian as much as possible through DVDs, Audiobooks, Radio, Music, Reading & continuing with FSI (I may have another crack at Assimil soon - but not just now - I got bored of it).
I also have a new agreed rule with my friends that I CANNOT under any circumstance other than medical emergency or life threatening situations, speak English with them. Go the enforced discipline!! No seriously, my friend's mum is coming to Australia in around 3 months. I write to her regularly on MSN, but my speaking level is a lot lower and I would really like to be able to converse with her while she's here (and not look like a fool). The only way I think I can get there, is if I am talking at EVERY given opportunity!

Finished Pimsleur Hungarian! Yay! There were only 2 words in the whole program that I haven't been using. Both of them I had heard a number of times, but had 'forgotten' about them.
I'm taking it to be a good thing that I knew all of the words. It has been a bit of a confidence boost for me, I guess. And the program really helped with my understanding of word orders.
Okay, so with Pimsleur done now, I think I should go back to working on FSI. It was a nice 'break', where I slowed down completely on FSI - but back to work now!
FRENCH
Watched lesson one of French In Action. I like the concept - I hope the program will be as good as it seems to be. I will be aiming to do some more Michel Thomas before bed tonight, but it will depend on time. It's getting late now and I still have some work to do today!

To make sure I speak I try to keep an audio blog.. just 5-10 minutes of talking about the day or a response to something I've read or seen on tv. A lot less time-consuming than writing a journal, but just as useful in my opinion.
