Haven't had a chance to review them myself yet but I agree with you that I also find it necessary to tune my ear quite considerably.

I haven't done any French for almost 5 years so it's extremely rusty.

My dad's about to subscribe to Champs Elysees so I'm hoping to borrow each issue as he's finished with it.

Myself I'm more likely to subscribe to Puerta del Sol later on this year as part of a major push to improve my Spanish in the next 12 months.

Andy.

I'm jumping onto this thread a little late, I see, but I just want to say that as a subscriber to Puerta del Sol, I think it is excellent. Perhaps five months ago, I did not have this opinion, as it had been at least nine months if not more before I received a second issue. They are apparently under new management, and they seem to be back on schedule.

Another audio-magazine that I subscribe to, Think in Spanish, comes monthly. I love the idea of it, and with discipline it's worthwhile, but my problem with it is that the text is read. It lacks the natural conversational tempo of Puerta del Sol and is therefore less compelling to me, despite their good intentions.

The theme of Puerta del Sol is Spanish current events and is recorded as if it were a radio news show. I simply get sucked into it with every listen. It comes with a complete transcript, with a glossary on the facing pages. If you pay just a little bit more, you can order audio flash cards which consist of the glossary listings. Great practice for in your car or when you're doing the dishes!
