So many things have been going on in my life that I haven't had any language study of recently, however now I am back, and hoping to be back on track.

Will edit later with my recent study today.

Now I just need motivation, and even though unlikely no one reads this I am going to be now posting on a regular basis as I have been seriously neglecting my studies recently.

Japanese:
Mainly only been listening to audio, about an hour's worth a day. Need to read much more and just learn from reading and listening to expand my vocabulary more.

Korean:
I have started by noting down the important words and grammar in my notebook and generally getting used to reading quickly in the new alphabet. About 2 hours worth a day.

Chinese:
Noted down some vocab and grammar points, and am trying to practice speaking with the tones. I am finding this impossibly hard as this is my first tonal language. About 2 hours worth a day also.

Other languages:
Have been neglected totally at the moment, need to pick up the momentum with them rapidly.

Just letting you know that someone does read this.

Keep at it, you're doing better than me at least. I haven't even updated my log (let alone done any real study) since I returned from my Esperanto conference.

Totally forgot I even had the blog after not being online much in over a month. I just need enough hours in the day without people bothering me to study, which is quite hard at the moment due to the fact my mother thinks I should be doing less studying...

Thank you for your encouraging words Farrioth, apologies for not replying sooner as you posted around the time of my absent online activities.

Now I am back and planning to hopefully stay on board. I have asked my boyfriend to remind me to update the blog, so hopefully we both won't forget about it.

Recently I have mainly only been doing Japanese and Korean studies. Korean I seem to feel like I am working with the right materials. Japanese just building on what I already know, by reading, noting vocab, watching TV programmes and listening to lots of music as Japanese music is the only music I have listened to for years.
Mandarin I am moving with at a slightly slower pace due to the fact I am trying to improve on my intonation at the same time, I don't move on until I feel I have got my pronounciation of the words at a good pace.
German and Spanish are my subjects to move at a slow pace and brush up to a comfortable level before I take my degree course in November.
Russian I need to sit down with Princeton as my books I feel are totally useless in everything apart from the alphabet sections.

I'll throw my supportive hat into the ring, and can't wait to see more posts detailing how you handle such a mix of languages. I figure if you can make progress with yours, I've no excuse not to with my own.

Keep up the good work, and find a little bit of motivation in knowing that I am watching over you...'re log. :p

Thom.

Thank you very much for your support ExtraLean.

My Japanese vocabulary seems to be building at a steady pace through reading articles and listening to my usual Japanese TV programmes. Will have to get some of my dramas out later this week for some more new material. I seem to be working at a pace of about 50 words a day, which I think to be quite fine considering my load.

Korean is moving at a slightly slower pace than I would like, mainly due to my attention span not seeming to hold long enough while I study all the grammar points. Maybe I should try a new and more fun method to learning grammar and such? I can manage to say basic things in Korean and my vocabulary is building at a steady pace, have found some partners to speak some normal chat to so will try and engage in light conversation later this week.

Mandarin seems to have overtaken Korean as being slightly more comprehensive. I am remembering words and grammar with ease for Mandarin and am delighted by this fact. Tones are getting slightly easier for me to perfect on some words however definitely needs a few more months work before I will be satisfied. Working on building vocabulary and grammar before I study characters to associate with what I am learning via speech.

German and Spanish are moving at a more slower pace as I have more time for these later in the year. Spanish is new and seems simple enough to me, but vocabulary needs building majorly. My German is rekindling slowly but surely.

Russian is the only language where I haven't seen much improvement so far. I need to spend more time with the Princeton material before I will be satisfied that I have made some progress.

Not too bad with my update this time :D

Only a short entry today due to the fact I had written loads and then my computer crashed and lost it all. I bought a brand new Kanji Learning book today, which appears to be pretty good, as I have lost most of the other Japanese books I once used. I am going to re-do the kanji I already know and learn the rest to complete my knowledge of the Jouyou Kanji. Only used it this past evening so currently day 1 is :

Jouyou Kanji known: 131/1945

Doesn't seem too impressive, but hopefully it shouldn't take me too long.

Oh dear... my journal died again, and much has changed since then. It seems I spend more time learning than I do typing and browsing forums. I believe probably everyone has this problem.

I should explain the severe differences that will now occur in my journal.

German and Spanish have been put on my backburner. Due to the fact they are my degree languages, I probably should be studying them more, however I will start that intensively in November 2009. This will be the start of my 4 year degree, those being my majors.

Japanese is still my main concern and the language I am most passionate about.

Korean, Mandarin and Russian will be continued to study extensively through various resources and I expect thorough progess to be made.

I am flirting around with Swedish at the moment, and may take it on seriously, however haven't fully decided.

An update will be entered at the end of today for progress report.
