I've been studying Norwegian for a while now, and it's really important that I am proficient in the language by August, as I'm most likely going to school in Norway for a year. I definitely don't count on being anywhere close to fluent, but comfortable enough to live there, and become fluent by the time I return.

I'm using Pimsleur and Teach Yourself Norwegian right now, along with a few online materials. I'm going slowly, to make sure I'm learning both phrases as well as the individual words making up the phrases. I'm trying not to simply commit the words to my memory, but learn them well enough that the instant I hear them, my mind makes the connection to the object, like a first language.

I'm on part 3/16 of TY Norwegian, and am on Lesson 6 of Pimsleur. I hope to be finished with TY Norwegian by the end of May, and Pimsleur by around the middle of April.

Ha det bra =)

Hey good luck with Norwegian and on the school year:) Are you going on an exchange to Norway? I've just started
learning Norwegian and I've been having some trouble finding good materials. So far I'm using Assimil's le
norvégien sans peine. I see that you also study french; if you can manage it, I'd really recommend this Assimil
course. How are you liking TY? What edition is it?

I probably wouldn't be able to understand the full french text, when I read something in French I can normally only understand about 75% of it. I'm not sure exactly what TY edition it is, but it is the edition with the blue sweater on the cover.

I've been a little lazy with my Norwegian learning, because I've been scrambling to get everything finished for the end of the school quarter. Hopefully this weekend I'll get a lot more done, because so far I've only listened to my TY Norwegian a couple times and done two lessons in Pimsleur.

Also, I'm looking into The Assimil course. It probably wouldn't be too challenging, and they don't have an English course for Norwegian.

NORWEGIAN: Listened to some Norwegian videos on Youtube, and was happy to have been able to catch several phrases and words that I've already learned =) I also watched some teach yourself norwegian videos I found on youtube. I haven't done much work in the TY book, and am still only on lesson 3. I ordered a Norwegian-English dictionary as well as "Harry Potter og De Vises Stein" for when I finish the TY book.

Hey, I’m going to try to write at least a paragraph in Norwegian with each new entry. I’m sure I’ll make many mistakes, so I would appreciate it if people correct me if anything sounds wrong. I would love help/corrections!

Hei!

Hi,

Your Norwegian is very good, but I made some changes to the text above.

Remember that "syk" suggests physical sickness in Norwegian, so don't use it unless that's what you mean! :o)

Also, the article must be included if the noun is specific.

About "min norsk bok": If the book is Norwegian then "min norske bok" is okay, but at school everyone will refer to the book that teaches Norwegian as "norskboken". And the same with "engelskboken", or "geografiboken".
