I'm so happy to finally have all the time I want for language study now that school is out. Yesterday I finished lesson 1-4 in "Latin for Americans" and completed the Unit Review/Assessment. Today I've started lesson 5 and have started reading about the genitive case, which I'm having some trouble with. I'm trying to write "the good slave's horses are big", which I translate as "equī bonī servī magnī sunt", though it seems this could also mean "the slave's good horses are big".
I worked on Unit 5.1 of "Teach Yourself Norwegian" and entered all of the vocabulary terms into Anki, and will move onto Unit 5.2 later on today. I also worked on Action verbs in Afrikaans, which I got from "afrikaans.us". I'm really impressed with this sight - It teaches much more vocabulary than in my TY Afrikaans book. Yesterday I ordered Assimil French, so I'm eagerly awaiting that. I'm already good in French (taught myself some last summer, I took french this past year in hs), and I'm going on vacation to Montreal this summer (I live about 6 hours from there). 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

Nice to see people of around my age (I'm 17) here who are so much into language studies too :D It's really remarkable that you're studying Norwegian, that's definitely not a language one would expect to find an American learning, but this is a positive discovery (hopefully that didn't come off sounding like I have some kind of a stereotype in my head :D). I even find it rather strange that Latin is on your list... how come? I mean I do understand that it helps in studying Romance languages, but Latin is practically dead aside from the literature. To each his own I guess, haha.

Haha, people always tell me I'm weird for learning the languages that I am ;P. I'm learning Norwegian because I love the country (and the other nordic countries, as well) and in my junior year I'm attending school in Norway. Also, I plan on moving to Norway after HS. I think Roman culture is fascinating, so I signed up for Latin at school (I'm going to be a sophomore).

FRENCH: I got my "Assimil: New French with Ease" today, and so far I've done two lessons. It's easy so far, as most of it has been review. I'm going to do a few more today, and try to continue at that rate until I finish the book =D.
LATIN: I've done 2 lessons today in my "Latin for Americans" textbook, and I learned all about the future tense, as well as mastered the Latin genitive case which had been giving me some problems. NORWEGIAN: I started lesson 5.2 and entered all the vocabulary into Anki. I decided to write in some of the languages that I study as writing Practice. Sorry if there’s mistakes in my French, I’m a little rusty, I haven’t actively studied it in a long time until now.
FRENCH : Bonjour ! J’ai étudié un peut Français cette semaine, et beaucoup de Norvégienne. J’ai étudie Français avec Assimil, et je l’adore. Le prix est raisonnable, et il y a beaucoup d’information. J’adore mon « Teach Yourself Norwegian » livre aussi, mais je pense que Assimil est la meilleure produite pour apprendre langues. Aujourd’hui, j’étudierai beaucoup de Norvégienne avec mon Teach Yourself livre, et je voudrais finir chapitres cinq et six. Aujourd’hui j’ai lu du livre « Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince » (en anglais), parce que j’adore les livres Harry Potter, et le film sera en théâtres Juillet 15e. J’irai à la piscine aujourd’hui (à quatre heures) avec mes copines pour quelques heures. Il fait beau ici en Maine, mais cette nuit le temps sera très mauvais – grêle, pluie, et peut-être des tornades ! Aussi, je suis excité, parce que j’irai à Québec (la ville de Québec) en août en vacances avec ma mère et mes cousines. Je suis très excité, parce que je ne vais jamais à d’autres pays, sauf la Nouveau Brunswick (j’habite à côté de le pont entre Maine et Nouveau Brusnwick). Je vais étudier mes langues et nager! Au revoir ! I was happy to realize that I still was very proficient in French! The only words I had to look up in my dictionary were grêle (hail), tornade (tornado), and sauf (except). ************ NORWEGIAN: Jeg er på (leksjon?) 5.3 av min bok “Teach Yourself Norwegian”. Jeg er glad at det er sommer! Jeg gleder meg til å studere norsk, fransk, afrikaans, og latin, og å være med vennene mine (og ikke på skole!). Når jeg er 16 jeg skal dra til Norge å studere på en norsk skole og bo med en ny familie for en år. Det er fordi jeg skal være i en program som tar studenter fra Amerika og andre land til nye land å bo i det land for en år å studere og opplever en ny kultur. Jeg må få mye penger hvis jeg skal dra til Norge i programmet, så jeg skal arbeide på en butikk og selge noen språk produkter – Pimsleur Russian I, II, III, og min bok “The New Penguin Russian Course”. Hvis du vil gjerne ha dem, du kan kjøpe dem fra meg ;P Å, jeg må gå nå, fordi vennene mine er her å ta meg til svømmebassenget. Ha det ! This fourth of july I was at my aunt's house when I looked at the house across the street and saw a norwegian flag! I asked my aunt, and she told me that a family from norway lives there. The guy's name is Sven, and my aunt said she'd introduce me to them when they're home. I think it will be great practice for me, and I'm still really surprised that someone from norway actually lives here. 1 person has voted this message useful |
