Hi Weizenkeim, it's interesting to follow your progress. I am trodding along at about the same place I think...

'quickdrying tiling grout' lol!!!
Good to see you're picking up the essentials! Lord knows you couldn't get by in Russia without this essential sentence! :-) I've lived in the UK almost 10 years and I am not sure exactly what "grout" is....!

Your discussion about "goluboy" reminded me of something! I couldn't resist a search on Youtube. It's one of the firest words I knew in Russian and I learnt it from a somg in a "cult" Russian TV series for kids. The original Russian series was so popular in Sweden that a local series was made using the Russian puppets after Russia dropped it. This song was often played But I had no idea that the word could mean "gay" either! Edit: Funked up version with a summary of the plot. This series is absolute class compared with much of the rubbish shown to kids today. :-)

Hey cordelia, I had no idea about the existence of the word "grout" either. Still not sure, if I am right about it, it sounds rather like some cereals or so. Anyway, thanks so much for posting that videolink. I really love that kind of stop motion animation.

I just visited my first post again. I started the log two weeks ago.
This has been quite useful so far. Let's have a look:

over two weeks -
I added ~250 words & phrases -> 2154 cards
I read 4 pages and a half in my novel -> P 14
I still don't really know what it is about. There is this guy, кирилл who discovers after coming home from work, that his appartement is occupied by some woman who claims that she lived there for 3 years already. It is quite nice to read with a tendency to sillyness but not too much.
I have to look up every second word. Some of which certainly are useful, some I hope I will use at least once in my lifetime if only to impress someone :D
I want to know, how it ends.
I proceeded to L 76 in Assimil
I listened a lot to Assimil, Radio, Audiobook.
I proceeded a littlebit with my planned picture flashcard project. Nr. 2 is nearly finished. I also collected some more sentences and did some sketches for the next ones.
I still haven't written anything in russian like I planned - holy grout! (At least I have a lot of ideas for little essays that I hope won't be too difficult to write about for my level)

----
Cardreview as usual + another 15 words added yesterday.
Read a short paragraph.
I try to learn word stresses and stress changes together with the verbs.
I get them wrong all the time.

В четверг у меня страшно болел живот. Почти целый день я лежал в кровати, не мог читать мою русскую книгу, не учиться новые слова. Думаю, что я ел слишком много лук по обед. Так я лежал, пил тминый отвар, чашку за чашку. Гмммм вкусно! Но в пятницу болей были нет. Слава Богу.
Значит:
---
+ 25 words
+ book -> стр. 15
+ assimil урок 78 reading + listening
+ extended wordreview due to thursday's malaise

Thank you very much, SII, for taking the time :)

- I have slowed down my progress over the weekend. Not taking up more words but merely reviewing. I did about 250 card reviews every day over the last weeks, making a lot of mistakes too. So I will give it some time now to settle before I continue with my story, maybe til friday.
- On sunday I found a website called praticerussain.com, where I spent hours playing a memorygame using cards from some picture dictionary. I wouldn't call this the most effective way to study, but I learned some new words like колдун, кролик or вертолёт I somehow haven't run into so far... and it was fun.

- And I continued with Assimil. Got to lesson 81 where they first time give you some excerpts from russian literature. Listened to it on autorepeat a lot, too. When I am through with the first chapter of my book, I have to add all the words from the last 15 lessons to anki. In the past it has also been very helpful to create flashcards out of sentences from the exercise part.

---- progress of last 3 days
I read 1 page in my book, wrote down all those unknown words, but didn't add them to my anki stack yet. It feels like a good idea to make a break in learning new words for a few days once in a while. I also continued with my assimil lessons to урок 82. Yesterday I read it aloud while lying the bathtub for over an hour until my skin got wrinkly. I love that. Reading russian in the bathroom. Lots of reverb, better than singing. Огнёв. Я люблю вас. Wonderful.

I don't know if I should continue with my lecture like this. Right now I have the urge to add EVERY word I don't know to my to-learn list. I will do so until the end of chapter 1 for now. Only 2 pages left. Sometimes it feels like I am slowing down my progress with words and phrases, that seem to be too rare to be worth being memorized. But somehow...

If you want to understand exactly texts which you read, you must understand all of words. You may don't learn the rare words: when you see such word you can search it in dictionary. But when you see some word often, it is better to learn it.
