I have been reading the thread about why people don't learn German. One of the comments was that you have to speak German very fluently indeed for most Germans not to speak to you in English. This is a real challenge, because all of the Germans I work with speak English really well. Although some of them are kind enough to let me speak to them in German, it is much easier and quicker for them to converse with me in English.
This is both depressing and a challenge. It just means I have to work that much harder.
