I think I could be useful on this team. I speak English and French fluently, my Spanish is very good, and I will be working in the Dominican Republic next summer. I am currently focusing on Russian. I've studied it for 5 months now and am pushing foreward to learn more and more. I also am interested in Italian, but I don't know if I'm going to start it, let me know if you want to work together

Today I have thus far done the minimum in Russian, Indonesian and Spanish, then I had a little burst in Spanish and added about 300 vocab items, then did a few. The Russian Pimsleur has finally annoyed me too much, it goes far too fast in terms of speaking speed, as compared to the Swedish one, though that got to repetitive but I did like it more.
Last night, I got a burst of Esperantist in me so I went through that for an hour or so and re-acquainted myself with some of the tenses, pronouns and random vocabulary, and today I did another hour of it. Then I slept for four hours in the middle of the day. So a few mins after that, I am posting this. I will have about 3 hours of Mandatory study due to detention this night, so I am trying to figure out what to do in that time. I think that I will go with half Russian book work and then an hour of Indonesian and thirty mins of Esperanto. Not sure yet though. I ended up doing an hour of Esperanto, then another of Spanish. Then I wrote the following:
*Éste es la prima vez que escribio (should it be something like “have written?” Using haber?) alguno así en español, entonces pienso mucho problemas. A noche, estuve estudiar esperanto y español. Me gusta esperanto más que español, pero mi español es mejor que mi esperanto y necessito apprender español para mi classe de español. Si no tengo la classe de español, me gusta español más que hago ahora. Por éste estudio, uso la programa de computacion "Anki" y leyo wikipedia en esperanto. Comenzé aprender esperanto ayer, pero es moy facil y puedo leer en él. Deseo que puedo leyo bueno en español, pero no comprende muchas cosas y necessito buscar palabras y frases, pero aún no comprendo totalmente todo de libro o otra cosa. Estoy feliz que hago éste, porque no pensé que puedo hacer éste sin usar mucho la dicionario. En este momenta, escucho la canción familia de la banda heavy metal Horcas. Actualmente ellos estan mi favorita banda en español, pero mi favourite es Accept o Мастер porque ellos tiene más rapido que la mayoria de bandas y tiene bueno cancións. Pienso de quitar la lingua de ruso ahora, hasta nueve año. Es porque me convertio intersado en esperanto, pero pienso que hago todo linguas, ruso, esperanto, español y indonesio. Recientemente, yo (have been?) haya estado deprimido pero no sé comó. Pienso que una parte estas que mi novia esta lejos de aquí, pero que es más que nosotros con nos. Entonces no pienso que este es la razón. Qué lo podría? Adios por este noche. *Adverb placement, I'm generally putting them after the verb. Other times I'm putting them at the end of the sentence, which is just my mind throwing in some English syntax. But at the same time I am wondering if it is actually wrong to do that, or if there would be circumstances in which I would place it somewhere else, or that I’m totally incorrect here. *(have been?) haya estado En mi classe, apprendemos extrañas cosas y en raro orden. Como nosotros apprendemos palabras como “Deshojado” “profaner” y otras, pero en clase nosotros no aprenemos la future, entonces apprendo este cosas, pero no tengo veq ahora. Ahora, sé que supono usar “haben” con la verbo por este tiempo, pero no sé que tiempo es. Entonces, podría mostrarme alguno un sito que ensena este? The Esperanto distraction died, being replaced with Latin. In Russian I am having material issues now, I like the Penguin book allot, but since it lacks audio, I need something else for that, and the Pimsleur was just too fast and my Assimil wasn't of the highest audio quality. But I have gotten the Princeton course, and am liking it allot. I'm not quite sure about the rate with which you are supposed to go, so I am aiming for a lesson each day. Indonesian is going along, the vocab is getting annoying though, so much stuff looks the same, so I need to work a new vocab acquisition system.

Though I actually have had a light interest in it for a while and I don't really desire too much skill in it so... Anyways, I am finding a problem right now, in Russian, it does not look like I will finish the 2 chapters this week. The problem is that I'm not remembering any vocabulary, I'm using the same methods I have for Swedish and Spanish. (Swedish being the language after Spanish I'm best at, though tisn't saying much.) But the words just are not sticking. My pronunciation is getting better, I'm recalling the grammar but yeah... I find that different things go at different speeds. The answer is just more exposure. There are always things that I think "should" be easy, and they turn out to be hard when I first work on them. Once I've looked at them several times and kept on pushing ahead, though, then it turns out that the hard stuff from 2 weeks ago feels pretty easy now.
This is part of the big problem with motivation and language learning. If you can keep up your confidence and motivation, then you can do anything because it just takes more time to fix anything. If you start getting burned out or depressed, and you think you'll never get it, then you might quit (which means you actually will never get it). Patience, and just keep pushing. Probably every 3 or 4 weeks I get the feeling that I'm never going to be fluent in German, but I just keep pushing. Then a week or 2 later, things feel easy again, or I notice some new improvements that happened recently. The other thing is that you can't always predict which things you'll learn in which week. Sometimes a certain concept will seem hard, but actually you'll be making great progress on some other aspect of the language. As long as you keep exposing yourself to the language, you'll be making _some_ kind of progress, even if it's not on the exact concept that you intended. 1 person has voted this message useful |
