What is it that you passively listen to for 8 hours a day? Do you use your ipod at work, or how is this possible? |

I listen to Russian radio stations online, mainly Voice of Russia and radio Mayak. Though I have a nice list of stations if I want to hear something different. Um, here's the link if you want it.
http://www.listenlive.eu/russia.html
As for how I can rack up that many hours in a day, I'm a distance ed student, I do university courses at home. If i'm doing up assignments I'm also listening to Russian, if i'm making new flashcards I'm also listening to Russian, if i'm practicing typing, I'm also listening to Russian, if I'm making up a new word list...well you get the idea. That time begins to add up pretty quick. It's not active listening though, its passive, most of my attention is focused on something else...most of the time anyways lol.

*Not quite done the week 1 to 5 lists but I started drilling anyways. I'm already starting to hear the things I'm drilling in speech. It's pretty cool, I’m surprised though by how quick its happening, time from drill to recognition in speech is hours. Impressive. The highlight of the day though was when I was listening and I heard two words and my mind just naturally made the connection on what they meant. Так проста, so simple. Yeah I know, так проста...эта так проста, but still, its the fact that my mind conjured up the meaning out of the blue (while I was listening no less) that made my day. I know this, my mind is starting to link thing up now, and once is starts happening...its keeps on happening lol. Yeah, it’s going to be a damn good year. I so wish I could spend it all learning Russian, but жизнь не так проста, that won’t stop me from trying though.
*Что любовь не игра.....um something I picked up from listening. Damned if I know what it means, but that’s not the point. Starting to grab larger and larger clumps of words out of speech, overall its great, but in terms of doing active listening its going to be complicating. There’s no way I can write with a pen and paper everything I hear while listening and have a hope in hell of keeping up with the speed of conversation. I might need to be able to type in Russian sooner than I thought. I imagine with a bit of practice I’ll be able to type faster in Russian than I could ever hope to write.

*Slow ass day. Had high hopes of getting alot done yesterday, then this narcoleptic like urge for sleep kicked and yeah...out like a light. December 4th, lasted a whole 7 hrs...I guess that’s what I get for drinking like two pots of coffee a day. Crashed lol. Anyways though, after a very comfortable 15 hr sleep, I’m very very well rested, just have to grab my flashcards and my coffee cup and I’m good to go once again.

I see why people use spaced repetition systems...brutally effective they are. Flashcard consolidation for weeks 1 to 5 is about 65% complete. Sometime Monday I should be able to resume forward progression. Not to worried about the spelling part, starting tomorrow I'll assign an hour a day towards drilling in proper spelling for these flashcards I'm reviewing. My focus above all is on the Russian words, their meaning and definitely...their pronunciation. Faster they are learned the faster they can be brought to the table for detection in listening.

6. Да, это очень приятное место. - Yes, it is a very nice place.
22. А я буду стоять у дерева. - And I will stand by a tree.
