Hello everyone, I am a relatively new member to this forum and have a passion for
language learning. As a child I lived in the Napa Valley (back then it was a mostly
Italian and Portuguese city) and learned to speak Italian from my grandparents and
easily picked up Portuguese and Spanish, and of course English at home. However,
between the ages of 7 and 8 my parents moved my family across the country, and that was
pretty much the end of my Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. I forgot all three. About
two years ago a passion for language learning began to stir within me once more and I
learned Spanish and became proficient in German. I stumbled onto this forum recently
and now want to expand my goals and learn another five languages.

Unfortunately, my problem has always been perseverance. If I get bored with drilling in
vocabulary for a week, I will get bored of the language all together, and not want to
attempt anything until a month later when I get another rush of eagerness. I want to ut
an end to that, and from reading a few posts regarding the "TAC", I want to participate
as well. I really believe that if I set goals for my self and have a little support I
will have no problem reaching my goals.

One slight problem: what is the TAC? From what I have read I still have little idea
what it is for or how it works. Are there certain requirements as well? I am interested
in being on a team I think, so is it too late? If anyone could please give me the
breakdown on the total annihilation challenge I would greatly appreciate it.

Hey Lux,
Don't worry about it. It took me a week to find out what TAC even meant. Sorry to hear that you no longer know those languages. Perhaps they lie dormant inside of you. Have you checked the team challenge that will begin early next year? If not, you should sign up.
Also I live by Napa Valley. I live in Fairfield about twenty minutes away!   I want to go down there because my friend keeps talking about all of these castles there.
Good luck with you TAC if you plan to keep one and welcome back to this site! I see that you have been here for almost a year!

Thanks for the help, Shadow! I did sign up for the team challenge, but I think I need to
revise my goals a bit, there seem a little unrealistic.

Unfortunately I no longer live in Napa, but visit almost every summer. I believe your
friend is primarily referring to Castello di Amerosa, built by the wine maker Daryl
Sattui. He hired the foremost experts in European architecture to design the castle for
him, and them bought everything (including all of the rock) from Europe and had it
freighted over. The castle is really quite cool, it even has a dungeon with authentic
torture racks and what not. I would definitely recommend it.

Anyway, I hope to become more active here, and can't wait to improve in my target
languages!
