Apropos Bastian Sick: I guess he is assuming that the written language eventually follows where the spoken language leads.
However I'm not sure whether things are really quite so simple as that? It may have been true throughout much of German history. But ever since the advent of printing and mass-publishing, conventions for written language have probably been much more resistant to change, I think.
