I'm very tempted to do a one-week super-intensive language learning experiment... and since that can hardly prepare me well enough for any language, not to mention I should improve the languages I started first, I thought of doing Toki Pona.
Toki Pona is a minimalist language of only 120 root words. It's an experiment in pidgins and the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis more than a full language; it can't be used to talk about anything scientific, but it is surprisingly versatile and forces the brain into new patterns of thinking. Moreover, despite being invented in 2001 only, its Yahoo group already has 470 members, you can always find some at Esperanto events and there are decent amounts of translated reading materials in it.
Question: would anybody else join me?

I'm sooo tempted to, but I really need to focus on my other languages right now. Good luck, I hope you find some others!

That sounds like a lot of fun, Sprachprofi! Since the language has so few Lexemes,
you'll essentially know them all. I'd be fascinated to find out what it's like and to
know how it goes about talking about more complex things.

Did anything come of this? Would some Toki Ponans like to step forward and talk about their experiences, both with the language and the community surrounding it? |

I haven't done this yet because I wanted to do it as a "reward" for finishing up some university stuff. Now it looks like I will travel to the states before I can dedicate a whole week to this, so it will probably be the last week of October or first week of November. Do you want to join?

Toki Pona...
I had to read your Wikipedia link, Sprachprofi, because this new language was completely unknown to me. I have never even heard of this language name. For me - being an Esperantist - one constructed language is enough.
