Hi every one, i'm a student of Spanish here in India, i am one of those ET's who have got weird(i'm sorry) goal..now i am 25, by the time i reach 40, i would like to be proficient in Spanish,Mandarin,French,Japanese,Italian and Russian.i am doing my Masters in Spanish,any suggestions about my academics, do i have to go for Ph.d in Spanish?

Hi,

I'm not sure I fully understand your question. If you're asking if you need a Ph.D. for a career in academics, I'd probably say yes. That said, it probably depends on where you live. For example, if there is a shortage of skilled Spanish instructors in India, you might see holders of master's degrees in academia.

Interesting... our 15-year plans are almost identical (just substitute German and Arabic for Italian).

But yea, I don't understand your question. Getting a Ph.D is a career choice, and has very little at all to do with your long term goals of language learning.

If you just want to be an interpreter go for a masters, but if you want to be an academic and teach at a university, then you have to go for a Ph.D.

As for your language goals, I think that those in that amount of time is doable.
