It tasted like fried cabbage to me, and I was supposedly eating at a pretty good restaurant. I wasn't impressed, but again this is just me. I think most Korean food is fantastic but I've met some people who dislike it quite a bit.

What you all said made perfect sense--and to be quiet honest, I never really thought of just going to the supermarket to see what they had. I just kind of thought it would all be Russian-stuff and nothing else. However, what I really meant by the original post was what do you (or would you) do if you chose to study in a country and live with a family who prepared the food, but you really, really disliked all of it?
And I laughed at the comment someone made about "loving the language but hating the footwear," but I think food is a little bit bigger of a deal than footwear, you know? It was funny, though.

I love the German language and will be living with a German family come September. I have
done this sort of thing before, and I just hope that the food that this family will be
eating will not be the same as my previous family. It is not that I totally dislike the
German cuisine, it is the fact that the families tend to live off of bread, cheese and
sausage, making mealtimes seem quite repetitive and even boring.

I wonder what in particular you dislike about Russian cuisine? Soup? Pelmeni? Be sure we have food that can satisfy any taste here, and supermarkets, and restaurants of different kinds.
You know, whan I was in the UK I lost some weight because I could hardly eat the meals our host family offered us. It seemed so unnatural to me, as if made of plastic. Though I survived :) What about our Scottish host family, their meals made me feel quite at home, with soup, mashed potatoes and chops.
