Is anyone using eBook reader for the their studies?

They ought to be very good to have, download books for free (hm) put any number of dictionairies, grammar books and other references on it...

You can walk around with a language reference library in your handbag.
No need to choose which language you will study that day - all material is available.

I don't own one though, and I think it's a bit of a geeky extravagance. But am considering buying one, for studies and just for regular reading.

Does anyone have one, what's your experience?

By coincidence I just bought an ebook reader for precisely this purpose. I have masses of language learning PDFs - too many to print out - and reading them on a computer screen is painful after a while.

I tried a few ebook readers before going for the IRex DR1000S. It has a big screen - which is good for A4-sized pages in PDF. It also has a stylus for writing, which I really need for adding notes to margins etc. However, the battery life is terrible, and the price even more terrible.

I have the Sony Ebook reader 505 thing. It's awesome...but i can't write in it! Still screen is good enough, battery life is awesome. and the price just dropped 100€ I'd recommend it. It also takes SD cards to suppliment the ~200mg internal memory.

I have a 1st Generation Kindle, and for reading, I love it. For language learning, not so much - you lose a lot when you can't flip, or write in the book, etc. PDF conversion on it is decent, but sometimes you lose words, or letters out of a word, so while I can read German on it, I can get really stumped reading Spanish on it (not being able to figure out the missing stuff as well from the context). I think it it was my only language resource I'd die though, it's just too inconvenient for serious study and referencing things.

Wow, what amazing response! Thanks so much!
You've definitely convinced me.

I'll do some research and come back to ask for feedback on which mode.

Top secret crypto-coded message to Tupiniqium in response to his question:
-Ja, jag menar absolut nedladdning från torrent och liknande. ;-) Det verkar vara hemskt vanligt här, men ingen skriver om det i forumet, bara i PM.

I've also been wondering about "getting one for Christmas", but I really want to be able to write in it, circle things, underline, etc...
