Most "polyglot bashing" is really a response to egotistical showing off.

When someone says "I speak umpteen languages" then proceeds to read a short script in each of them, with a rubbish accent and blatant grammatical errors and posts the thing on YouTube, he's showing off and seeking adulation from people who don't know enough to realise he's rubbish.

I don't tend to watch these videos, but I know it really winds some people up when they've spent hours and hours perfecting their languages, and someone shows up with a little party trick to wow the crowds and draws loads of praise. They react, they get accused of "polyglot bashing".

But it's only "ego bashing".

I've never seen or heard of polyglot bashing, could you show me some examples?

I think I may have misused the word 'bashing'...

Somehow, there are certain people out there who are strongly against learning other languages. They often treat polyglots with utter contempt. Such phenomenon is very common in Yahoo Q&A. I frequent that place for advice on learning other languages and I got mostly discouraging comments...
