That's definitely true. It depends how many manuals, texts etc are available and their quality. And I think
even if one can get to A2 level or so by oneself if one wants to learn the culture and colloquial expressions
I'll have to interact quite a lot on a one-on-one level eventually.

Texts, grammar and dictionaries tend to focus on a cognitive approach and often really miss the
sociocultural dimension of language learning (culture participation)
