It was after watching last years eurovision that i decided to start learning french as i wondered what the hosts and the french spokesperson were saying when they spoke in french.
I noticed what i think was a mistake by one of the hosts last night when he said 'Monsieurs and Madames' which if i'm right should be Messieurs-Dames unless it can be said like that. Not real big deal i know but i got curious about it. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

I had exactly the same! Even if while being 12/13 y.o. I already knew some non-English (and non-Polish) music, it was probably this contest that made me an enormous fan of languages.
You're not the only one then. And now it's time for the main purpose of visiting this thread. After splendid victory of Sweden I've decided, that I really, really, really would like to go to Sweden next year and finally see this contest fully LIVE. And the most important in respect of this forum - I'm gonna start learning Swedish. In fact this language has been somewhere in the back of my hand since high school, but there was always no motiviation to incorporate it into my list since it's already very long. But now I have a motivation. A reason. I just have to wait one month or so to finish my exam session. Maybe I won't be lucky enough to swee this contest in Sweden in 2013, but nobody will take away from me the things I'd learn. So, svenska, här kommer jag! I told myself that I'd learn the language of whatever song (not country) won and luckily an English song won
because I already have my hands full enough! It would've been interesting if Russia's song won (which was sung in Udmurt), although I don't know where I would've found the language resources. 3 persons have voted this message useful | ||||||

I bet I could only comprehend 10% of what the Swedish chick was saying and I only attribute that to the number of times she repeated 'euphoria'. Are we positive that was English? :) 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

In a way, it is no surprise that Sweden won a pop singing contest. It has too much history with infectious pop songs. Of course there was ABBA, but Max Martin is headquartered out of Sweden. He is the genius behind most of the pop music that gets on the radio in the USA. I assume the same for the rest of the English speaking world, too. If it was a hit by Britney Spears, for example, he probably wrote it. 1 person has voted this message useful |
