This is a great book. Completely modern language. Except the stress signs of course. Otherwise not only do I recommend it, but I think you should bring it to the attention of the rest of the greek learning friends of the forum. The FSI course, which is from about the same period, has many old fashioned terms, leaning towards katharevousa. Not this one. Good find Ogrim!

As for the stress marks, let me tell you this: some older people still use them, because that's what they were taught. If anyone wants to learn them, do it. Unless you want to write something in official documents, if you want to learn greek just for you, use the old system if it pleases you. In fact, there are many people who wish to know it, because it is something that all texts before the mid 1980s had. After all, there is great pleasure in writing like that, plus it is a true knowledge of the language. And let me tell you one thing more: they are very easy to learn. Those who learn ancient greek have to learn them anyway, although the very ancient texts didn't have stress signs (or small letters for that matter).
