In what age does children's speech become clearly understood yet simple? I'll be delighted if I can speak 5 languages, for example, fluently like 10-years old children. I think in certain age, children can express any idea clearly using limited vocabulary. How can we know this age and the vocabulary used by children at this age? 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Most kids can communicate well by age 3 (some earlier, some later). There are other factors such as cultural. Growing up in a traditional family, we were taught to respect our elders and not talk directly to anyone who is older unless being spoken to. Under such circumstance when a child is not encouraged to communicate freely, it's hard to determine how much a child actually picks up.
Theoretically a child can pick up a language more easily than an adult. In many cases multiple languages in a nurturing environment. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

Through looking at corpuses of vocabulary used in one's native language by children of X age. PBS (Public Broadcasting Service - a US TV network that has, among other things, a lot of educational shows aimed at children) estimates that the average 5 year old in the US knows 4,000- 5,000 words and will learn another 3,000 words within the next 12 months. Their 3,000 words per year rate of aquisition holds true through 9 years old in their estimation. You can find more information here. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||
