Semantically "there are no" is a negation of "there are some". "Some" is an existential
quantifier. To negate its meaning you swap "some" with a universal quantifier like "all" and
then negate the sentence somehow by either negating "all" to "no" or using an overt negative
marker somewhere else in the sentence: "Some people wear glasses" negates to "All people do
not wear glasses = No people wear glasses".

I do agree that "there are some people who don't wear glasses" would be the more practical
answer for the learner (even though you aren't asking this).
