Progress Update:

I am just starting lesson 5. Im finding that each lesson easy to remember, and they are only taking me 30 minutes to do. I've just noticed that i never finished lesson 8, but i will do that today anyway. For those of you who aren't familiar with Chinese In Steps, each lesson has 20 or so words & characters, and then shows two conversations using the new words, written completely in Hanzi. What i'm doing is reading the conversations, and then writing my own conversation based on them. I am making my conversations more complex and i use more words from previous lessons in order to refresh my memory.

Ive realised that my previous technique of learning each lesson was flawed, because i was taking too long, which made me lose interest a bit. I would do each lesson, whilst on msn and watching tv, so it wasn't efficient.

But overall, im really going to put the effort into learning chinese, and if i can maintain the learning spark, i see no reason why i will stop.

Ill update you all either tonight or tomorrow about finishing this goal and setting a new goal.

Goal Completed:

Chinese In Steps 2 Lesson 1 was fine. It's certainly a great feeling to move onto the next stage of my learning.

Goal:

Review what i've done over the past 8 days. I won't have access to the university language learning centre and consequently the Chinese In Steps 2 book, so that will have to wait until monday. In the mean time, i will also do some podcasts and try to get Pimsleur. I've also seen a Hanzi book in borders which im very tempted to buy.

Update:

Im just reviewing the past week's work this weekend. Ill will probably buy a hanzi book tomorrow, so that will give me some other work to do.

Ill report back tomorrow to let you all know what ive been doing. But i will just mention that i have two essays to write this weekend, so you'll understand why i might not do much work this weekend compared to what ive done previously

Update:

I bought Learning Chinese Characters by Alison & Laurence Matthews. It's a book that ive wanted for a couple of weeks, and it is designed to take you to HSK Level A standard, as well as explaining radicals.

Goal Completed:

Ive completed the review of what ive done so far, and i completed lessons 1 and 2 of Learning Chinese Characters. Its helpful because it gives a story behind each character, so i find that i remember them easier than i do when i study Chinese In Steps.

I think that i will give Chinese In Steps a break for a bit whilst i concentrate on my new book. Also, because the only copy of Chinese In Steps 2 available to me is in the uni library, so its easier for me to use my new book for the time being.

Goal:

Complete Learning Chinese Characters lessons 3 and 4 by Wednesday

just wanted to say great job! It's great that you are dedicated enough to keep it up day after day. Keep on going! (or as the Chinese would say: jia1 you2, jia1 you2!)
