German:

Completed Pimsleur German Unit II Unit 16.

30 min

That is all I did for 10/17/08. Not a whole lot. I did actually run into this old Russian lady who I meet 5 or so months ago. I would see her frequently but before today there was about 2-3 month period where I didn't see her...but anyways we just talked a bit and got to practice my bad Russian with her....but she did say something that made me feel a bit better about that (perhaps because I havent been studying it as much as I used to), she said "I always forget your not Russian because your accent is so good"..Which I thought was cool, although maybe she was just being nice but anywaysss. She was just telling me that if I ever decide to go to Russia to let her know because her grandson lives there and that he could help me find a place or show me around. I said okay and she gave me her number.

Nice conversation.

Also since I am unbelievably unorganized I bought I binder and dividers where I will keep all my language learning materials. Before I had a bunch of random notebooks that I would use to write exercises/vocab/notes etc. And since it was just randomly placed when I wanted to go back and check something I had to go through a ton of notebooks. So I believe this is something I must do to improve my language studies.

Well that is it for tonight. I am gonna fix my binder and then get some sleep. Goodnight(or day) to you all.

Russian:

Okay I have 12 sentences that need to be translated from English to Russian. Unfortunately the book I am using has keine (No) key. So I have to do my best to get them right. That or perhaps a native speaker or an advanced student can correct me! If not I will have to ask a buddy or my Russian professor.

1)Hello Olga! Where is Mama? She is now in the Kitchen. (<- pulled a German capitalizing nouns!)

2)Nina was there too. They were there together.

3)We stood on the street, and, as usual, talked about our work.

4)In Boston they probably lived in your apartment.

5)Is the museum far away? No, it's very close.

6)My brother lived in Moscow, and my sister lived in Leningrad.

7)Nina is very glad that you are here, and Ivan is not glad. That is not true!

8)Vadim was at the football game today!

9)What were you speaking about? About our exam of course!

10)About whom was she talking? About Chekhov, as usual.

11)Did she speak Russian? Yes, but she spoke badly.

12)Nina spoke Russian, and Vadim spoke English.

Corrections and feedback would be nice, if not...no big deal!

:)

+ more prepositional/locative case study.

German:

Met up with my German class. We had our first club meeting and talked about the things we wanted to achieve and what not. Unfortunately we only had 5 of us today. There were a few people who couldn't attend but we are definitely planning on getting more people to attend: 1 Hour

After the meeting 3 of us stayed at the school cafeteria and studied a bit of German. Of course we did side track a lot but we did get a lot done. We each did our homework on our own and once we all finished we compared answers, asked questions, etc. We also went through some of the grammar we had learned the previous day. It was a good exposure of German. : 2 hours 30 min

Total: 3 hours 30 min

Italian:

Completed Pimsleur Italian II Units 10,11,12 & 13

Russian:

I completed a whole Unit 6 of my Russian Grammar book. I bought this book after it was recommended to me and now I am starting to see why. This book is amazing! It is filled with a ton of exercises and the grammar explanations are very clear and thorough. It is an old Russian textbook though. I believe it was used in the 70's but its great!

Anyway I wrote most by hand and chose a few to type (to practice my Russian typing skills :]). 3 of each exercise.

Here they are

Now my favorite. Translating from English to Russian :]

Ann is an American. She is such a serious student!

My sister, about whom we spoke about lives in Leningrad.

Have you thought about that difficult question? Not yet.

I am beginning to notice how much better my Russian typing has gotten in just a few exercises. This didn't take me that long to type.
