I'll start this log off with a quick anecdote. So my grandmother was visiting me a few weeks ago. We were talking about my dream of staying in France for a while and I told her that I had improved my French a lot recently. It might be good to note that I actually haven't yet made it to French 202 in college yet, mainly because the class largely depends on attendance. 3 absents and you fail. So anyway she said to me "how, are you taking another class in it?". I found this unbelievably funny and I said "no, I'm learning it myself!" as though this was the most obvious answer in the world. She said to me "OH, you're one of THOSE people." And I realized that I am one of those people. The autodidacts. Any of the things I ever figured out how to do well, I learned by myself. That's a trait of many successful people. BUT it isn't a trait of most people. So I want to dedicate this log to all of you autodidacts who make this forum so special.

You know I never thought of being auto-didactic as being special in any way. Always thought that it was something everyone had to begin with.

Good luck, Ashley. I hope you stay as enthusiastic and motivated as you seem to be now, and that you reach your goals in both Romanian and French (but especially Romanian).

What an insightful observation. I think it's true of some of my skills too. Which makes you wonder about school, and whether it really brings out the talents in everyone, or actually serves to put them off some subjects for the rest of their lives.
I am guessing that Romanian is a side-project for you then, and you are studying French at university?
Here is a song 4U, in Romanian by a singer that I listen to, but in Russian!
(Apologies if you already have her music!)
Old hit --- Melancholie
Newer song --- Seara Alabastre
The singer is called Sofia Rotaru and she is a huge superstar in parts of Eastern Europe and ex USSR countries. We even heard her sometimes in Sweden. She's been going strong for 30 years, possibly longer! I think her native tongue is actually Moldavian. At any rate, her records usually have one or two Romanian songs on them (which I skip!)
I listen to her mainly because she pronounces the words very clearly when she sings in Russian. Perhaps the same is true for Romanian. Enjoy!
