I'm actually a native English speaker, but my level of English is really bad. I'm not
sure if I'm allowed to make a log like this, but I so wish to further my English
vocabulary and I feel having a log would really help.
In this log, I will try and further my English vocabulary to the point I'm considered to
have an "impressive" vocabulary. I also want to be able to use more advanced sentences,
because I feel so very limited to basic sentences.
Thanks!

Thanks!
Just for the record I'll be using a comprehensive dictionary, namely the "Webster
Essential Vocabulary" as it has extensive vocabulary usage and it also has example
sentences of how to use the word in context.
Thank you.

Thanks Rhian!
I started using "verbal advantage" by a chap called Charles Harrington Elster, however,
I found the course to be so bland, and there were not nearly enough examples of usage
of the individual words being taught.
I feel I should also mention that I have to put my posts through a spell checker before
I post on here, because my spellings are so very bad. I don't have dyslexia I'm sure,
because I've just finished my first year at University with a 2:1, but, oh dear, I
probably have the most atrocious spellings on the forum.
I'll be writing about the methods I use, as well as the progress I make.
Thanks for making this possible.
Cheers.

Also, if anyone notices ANY mistakes in my grammar, PLEASE feel free to point it out. No
matter how trivial it seems, please do this for me, I won't take offence :D
Thanks

BBOS,
I've read your posts and found them to be very well written: your English might be much
better than you think.
You mention being at university. They should provide "Study Skills" of some sort,
including grammar and spelling - have you approached them about it?
Good luck! |

Hi Pavilion, and thanks for your comments, it is very much appreciated.
My University do offer these things, but I don't seem to learn the way my University
like to teach. I know this sounds rather strange, but I find I learn much better by
myself. I find that when working with other people on such things, I become extremely
self-concious of making mistakes. I've tried and tried to refrain from feeling this,
but I simply cannot.
Here, on this forum, from behind my computer screen, I'll be able to seek advice from
advanced English users while teaching myself too.
Cheers!

Good luck, I'm working on my native language too. :)

I think I would say:
"[...] I become extremely self-conscious about making mistakes."
Good luck! I think this is a great goal. I might even steal your idea - I know I could
definitely learn more English vocabulary!
