I've been reading about Sumerian recently and it is supposed to be the oldest recorded language - dating back to 3000BC. The writing system is similar to Egyption as it uses hierographs.
What got me interested was the movie The Forth Kind where the aliens speak Sumerian as they had contact with the people of Sumer. Anyone studying Sumerian? 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Probably sumerologist do know the language. I doubt if anyone else does.

To my knowledge, a lot of what we know about Sumerian is incomplete and reconstructed,
and a lot of it is via Akkadian. At my uni, two quarters of Akkadian are actually prerequisites for taking Sumerian.
