I'm considering checking out Russian: The Complete Course from Pimsleur from my local library. But I'm not sure it will be effective.

Many of you on the forums have good things to say about Pimsleur, but I'm wondering if it would be appropriate for me. Many of you seem to recommend Pimsleur for beginners. But I think I am... a low intermediate? I'm not a beginner anymore, but I don't feel comfortable calling myself an intermediate either. I'm in that weird limbo region in between!

Anyway, is Pimsleur a good tool for someone at my level? Or should I be focusing on other resources at this point?

It depends. I see Pimsleur as being something that can be appropriate for anyone who
isn't at the advanced stage yet. However, you might be slightly bored when using the
product or not get as much value out it.

That said, if your library has the course, why not just borrow it and see if its
worthwhile?

P.S.

Here's a sample lesson from the Russian course. It's lesson 61 out of a total of 90.

Beginner only, IMO. But for some languages, you may be stuck on the beginner level for a
while, and that's fine. Once you can distinguish words and sentences in a language--even
if you don't know their meaning--I think it's better to ditch the training wheels and
dive into native materials.

IMO--the program can still be used profitably as supplementary/road listening
beyond the beginner level. I wouldn't go out of my way to use it at that point though.

I would start with the first lesson level one and do 2 or 3 lessons a day until you get to new stuff. If you know it, it is review. Reviewing never hurts. You have the use of the set for free.

Here is a link to where Pimsluer claims you will be as the end of each level. I hope it helps.
