I think its a tricky one. Canada the country is bi-lingual, but in practise, French is rarely spoken outside of Quebec. French is a national language of Canada and a language of the IOC, but it is not the local language of where the games are actually being held.

There were plenty of French Canadian medalists on the podium. Seems kind of unfair to lump them all into the Anglophones.

By this standard, if Québec City gets the games in 2022, there shouldn't be any English? Or does it then become necessary because it's an official language? Can't have it both ways.
How about a tally showing how many speakers of each language participated in the Olympics?

But English is what most viewers of the Olympics would understand. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not against the Olympics being in French, but not having them in English would be stupid.
