After the "Let’s use Skype! - language exchange" thread initiated by Julie, and the interesting thoughts developed by nhk9 and others in "Language Exchange Strategies", here's a new thread for people who'd actually like to meet each other in order to practice languages.

Yes you could say that there's no need for this forum to become a meeting area for language learners, as there is already several ads on the internet for tutoring/exchanging.
I would have to disagree for at least two reasons:
-Most people here are motivated and experienced.
-Possibility to practice several languages if the two persons turn out to be polyglots!

I don’t have anything against chatting on the Internet and I might eventually start using Skype for language exchanges. I definitely prefer however meeting people for real over a café, a glass of wine/beer, etc.

So, for people who’d like to meet in order to practice and to learn, please post your languages (and location!) details here.

Concerning myself:

Location: Paris
I’ve got a good level in Arabic, French and English. I can thereby help anyone with those 3 languages.
I’ve got intermediate level in Spanish. I’d love to practice it and could eventually teach a thing or two for a beginner.
Finally I’d like to get help in German where I’m still a beginner.

I would love to do French for German, but Paris is far away and expensive (I live in Bavaria) :P

I think it's a very good idea and, if I recall correctly, something similar was mentioned in another thread (a long time ago now). I don't think that I'll be finding anyone near here though!

I don't think I'll get any language exchange this way unless someone is bothered to drop in in Sri Lanka once every week. :-)

I'm going to Paris for my first time next week. I'd like to practice my French (I know there are plenty of natives there, but anyway...), and I appreciate any help you could provide!

A bit off topic, but do you know if it's possible to do a DELF exam (in Alliance Française) during my stay and receive the certificate later (in Brazil, for instance)?

You can drop me a PM before getting here.

For DELF exam, I believe you must contact Alliance Française a few weeks before presenting the exam ( 6 weeks according to http://www.alliancefr.org/rubrique.php3?id_rubrique=1339)

Try getting in touch with them now, explain your case, and see if it's possible.
There shouldn't be any problem for them sending you the certificate to Brazil; they must be accustomed to temporary students not staying very long.

Boston, anyone?

I'm fairly useless in terms of foreign languages. I could probably give a decent intro to Spanish, but more as a "this is what you're up against" thing. But if you're an ESL student I can be more useful that the average Anglophone: my degree is in English, I've worked as an editor and writing tutor, and I currently work as conversation tutor. I've also taught classes abroad. So I could be a helpful exchange for someone who's proficient in English but wants to take the next long, hard step up to academic and/or artistic use of the language.

I'm currently trying to expand my Spanish, build up my French, and start a foundation in Arabic. Also mildly flirting with Russian and Mandarin, but I'm not really ready to commit to those relationships for a few years. . .
