I'm having difficulty in placing "at the same time" in this sentence..
As the book successfully points out........., it fails at the same time to...
or
As the book successfully points out........, it, at the same time, fails to...
or
As the book successfully points out........, at the same time it fails to...

I'd go with the third option here. The other two are quite awkward. Generally when you have a group of words like "it fails to" which are closely (subject, verb and its preposition), you want to avoid inserting anything between them. A possible exception is when you are inserting a parenthetical aside to further describe the subject, e.g. "The man, who was dressed in blue, entered the room".

I would say three, but that as has to be changed to although.
