hey guys , i have recently shifted to dubai and i feel the need to speak arabic as i am in the front desk in a Hotel .
I am already doing Lesson 11 of Pimsleurs eygptian Arabic but i urge to master the language perfectly to converse with the Local dialect. I recommend that you try GLOSS. There are a lot of audio clips with the transcripts so you can look up words you don't know even if you don't know how to spell them which is a big problem for most learners. They will listen to something and know there are words that they don't understand, but they won't be able to spell them in order to look them up in the dictionary since so many letters in Arabic are very similar. GLOSS recently added Arabic dialects too so you're bound to find something that will help you.

Also, you are kinda in the perfect spot. Talk to people there and you can be sure to find someone who can put you in touch with a local who can teach you the local dialect or MSA Arabic, on the cheap.
Egyptian Arabic is ok but it will not help you learn some things because Dubai uses Gulf or Eastern Arabic. Some things are similar in Egyptian dialect but a lot do not use the same words for things and you can be easily misunderstood--some with amusing and other with disastrous results! lol Edited by loveroflanguage on 24 June 2010 at 12:11pm 1 person has voted this message useful |
