You are a real supertagger, Meramarina, and I also regard tagging as my hobby. :)

I have some exchange with other polyglots and we all agree on the point that polyglottery is not a competition, so a title like "Polyglot Athlete of the Year" or anything similar in this direction wouldn't find acception among polyglots themselves.

Meramarina is definitely a worthy candidate for the tagging Pulitzer! :)

thanks, I only meant to do a few . . . !

And a fine hobby it is! After I posted that, I worried that maybe Fasulye would not like that comment as she has tagged nearly as much as I have - but it seems we are of the same mind about it!   Neither one of us, though, or anyone else, can hope to catch up with "Autotagger" - I wonder how he/she does it? Go Tag Team!

Anyway, back to the main topic, I think Teango's idea could be developed into a great forum feature that would highlight good content by any contributor. I had some ideas about this, too, but so far have not written them up in any coherent form because I'm still thinking about it.

EDIT: I don't know what tag to use for this thread! (since it's only a proposed forum feature and not an existing one)

SECOND EDIT: Tagged with "Thanks" because it is probably safe to assume that if you want to recognize someone's good work, you also mean to say thanks for it. Good enough.

Still the best part of it could be automated from the existing voting system and the tagging. The list could be generated by script as a separate page:

- Use the tags to generate the categories.
- Run a query for the posts with the highest number of votes per category.
- Have a blacklist for posts that got votes for being inflammatory or that merely repeat what was written somewhere else already.
- Allow for re-tagging single posts if either the tags or th post were slightly off-topic.
- Don't inflate the number of posts per category but instead have a "Show more..." option that allows the users to dig deeper into a particular category.

This would reduce the amount of work for assembling the list. Moreover, it could encourage to tag more consistently if it turns out necessary and to use votes more reasonably.

Yes, it's important to be very selective when choosing the titles of the awards. I would never want to see any competion, but I would definitely enjoy finding the people who succeed on the board so I can learn from them.

By the way. The inspiration for the word "Polyglot Athlete" came from Prof. Arguelles' excellent video "A Polyglot's Daily Linguistic Workouot". Didn't think about the competitive aspect of the word.

I'll be honest, I find every member here impressive in their own way.

For teens - taking the initiative of learning a language (I guess it's considered an odd hobby in our generation of video games and other mindless activities) It lets me know that I'm not alone in this hobby of mine :P

For adults - Not many people believe they have ANY free time to do anything outside of their work, let alone learn another language. They are doing the "impossible" learning a language after their 20s, while having a job and maintaining a family :D

For top polyglots - It's similar to "wisdom comes with age" I regard many here with the highest respect, and I could only hope to have the knowledge that they have someday. (You know who you are) They are my motivation for study, and a wealth of information for languages and language learning. (Thank God for the bilingual people of my target language, I can literally ask them anything and they can help me with it :))

Agree with you. But I won't be against the idea of the OP if it's something funny, e.g... well, no idea yet :p
