Like I've always wondered like how other languages like deal with this.

I'd guess that's it to aviod a silence when you're trying to think what to say. In (at least most) of the English speaking countries a pause in a conversation is seen as awkward so most people use fillers to avoid it, like "How do I look?" "Errrr you look errr like errr great" :D
I do it like all the time and wanna like stop using it when I like speak ;)

I mostly only use it for someone speaking/doing something. "He was like "Hey" or "She was like jumping up and down"
I'm trying to stop that :\

By the way: in Danish we can signal that we are think by saying hmmm (or just hm). This can also indicate a mild degree of disapproval.
Same word, just repeated and spelt differently is something that comes out of the other end of a dog (høm-høm).
