Hello,
(despite the fact that this post must have been made already in the past, the search
results didn't fish a thing.)
I was wondering if anyone could share an insight of how to acquire the Pimsleur
courses - for a fair price.
I want to study languages sincerely, but I lack the financial resources to do so. I
did figure out a work-around, but it's which one might consider "indecent".
Anyway, for various reasons (poor quality, out-dated edition, conscience) I decided
not to download the course off the internet, but rather to purchase a rightful copy of
it. And since I haven't got the money to invest in it (~500$), I hoped any of you
people might have a clue on how to get it for a reasonable price (second hand, third
hand, under a curse, etc.).
I shall be eagerly awaiting your comments.

You might be able to buy it used for much less and you might be able to haggle the price down. After all, once people go through it, they don't really need it anymore.
Which Pimsleur are you trying to buy?

Second hand is a good option, but I wasn't able to find sites offering it.
I'm looking for the German course.

Did you check Ebay or Craig's list?
I know someone who downloaded the German Pimsleur (all three levels) and he seemed pleased with it. Not that I advocate piracy at all.
Why must language programs be so overpriced? They're just losing customers and discouraging people from learning languages.
Edit: I think Amazon sells used versions for less, but it's still probably pretty expensive.

You can download the Pimsleur courses for free from Netlibrary and use the file for three weeks. You can renew the download (without downloading again) after each three weeks or you can simply record the file for yourself.
I have got a number of Pimsleur courses this way.
