Most people can master a foreign language.English-speaking peoples are no better or no worse that anyone else when it come to foreign language learning.It just that English is the international lingua franca of the world and English-speakers take that for granted and unfortunately it has made English-speakers lazy when comes to foreign languages.
Even English-speakers who not lingusts can aquire a very good knowledge of a foreign language if they are motivated,make the effort and have the time learn to learn it. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

I agree with this. Nobody says this to my friends who are interested in chemistry and physics, even though they are much more intelligent than I am. I know that these people mean well, but it's not as though language is an arcane pursuit. In fact, I cannot think of a more mundane subject matter. Everyone in the world uses language. I would, however, understand if someone praised me in this manner for my efforts in historical linguistics (though I would be equally embarrassed) or my friends efforts in science. Oh well. Learning a foreign language takes time and sometimes they are days when you're
feeling you're making a lot of progress and there are days when feel you're learning nothing at all.It's unrealistic to assume that you are going to enjoy language learning all the time.You will have your good days and bad days,but you should always perservere when learning a foreigh language. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

When learning a foreign language having self-study language courses like Linguaphone,
Hugo French/German/Spanish in Three Months or Rossetta Stone are an excellent way of learning a foreign language.It gives you a good foundation of your target language. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

Also log on to foreign T.V channels on the net,you will not understand everything that's being said,but it gives you a gist of your target language.I think it's a good way of learning a foreign language.

If possible sign up for foreign language classes.They are not in my opinion essential
when it comes to language learning,but classes are useful when learning a language. Language classes form part of the jigsaw puzzle of foreign language learning. If you live in any major city throught out the world,sign up with a language school that specialises in a particular language.For example the major foreign languages of French,German and Spanish have their own institutes which are partly funded by their govts.Like the Alliance Francaise,Gothete Institute and Intituto Cervantes. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

These language institutes of Alliance Francaise,Gothete Institute and Instituto Cervantes are a very good way of learning a foreign language and the teachers generally are pretty good and also going these institutes give you a little bit of a taster of the country and it's a good compromise to those who are unable to go and live in a French,German or Spanish speaking country. 1 person has voted this message useful |
