Isn't the main reason certain languages are easier to learn than others because of the
resemblence between its vocabulary and the vocabulary of the languages you know?
It only follows that knowing vocabulary beforehand would greatly simplify the learning
process.

Known vocabulary can accelerate you studies. Intuitive grammar can accelerate your studies. An intuitive writing system can accelerate your studies. Shared cultural knowledge/stereotypes can accelerate your studies.
But IMHO cramming any of these beforehand, out of their natural relation to a language, is a big waste of energy and will not result in having to study less but more in the long run.
(Also, I think knowing shared vocabulary will facilitate comprehension, intiuitive grammar production.)
